Archives Exhibits
Here we see, among others, copies of The Rice Bowl, The Gender Reader, Minority Report, RYE (a student satire magazine), and, of course The Acronym, in fact the very first issue. Some only had short runs, others lasted for years and the oldest continuing publication is our school student newspaper, which is appearing in hard copy again after years of being on-line. These publications cover a wide range of topics and with so many others are all housed in the Archives.

Intellectual Curiosity And The Role Of Libraries: The First And Second Year College Experience, Cynthia Tysick, Tiffany Walsh
Law Librarian Books
Intellectual Curiosity and the Role of Libraries explores how first and second year college students develop intellectual curiosity through library experiences. Such experiences can shape one’s undergraduate career, and include interactions with library spaces, instruction, relationships, services, and outreach. Instilling and inspiring intellectual curiosity in college students is a cornerstone of retention, positive academic performance, and completion for students of every socio-economic and diverse backgrounds. Libraries, as the intellectual heart of the campus have become increasingly woven into the fabric of the curricular and extracurricular lives of students. This collection of works was carefully curated to provide unique, meaningful, and …

Librarians' Chapters in Books
There’s no denying that academic law libraries are a vital part of the legal profession. Since 1928, law schools have been required to have a library located in a building occupied by the law school. Traditionally, these libraries were characterized by direct reporting to the law school dean, budget allocation from the law school dean or the university’s central administration, and a law library mission with a law school-centered approach.
However, in today’s economic climate, financial and operational efficiency is more critical than ever before— which makes organizational structure vital for law libraries to consider, as demonstrated by the growing …

Modeling Collaborative Research Practices With Zotero, Julian Kilker
Modeling Collaborative Research Practices With Zotero, Julian Kilker
UNLV Best Teaching Practices Expo
The early stages of research when students explore topics and evaluate resources are critical. Yet researchers can be overwhelmed by evaluating sources, organizing resources and notes, and working with collaborators. During these stages it is particularly important to model meaningful research relationships to support student success. I address these challenges by having students explore Zotero, a free “research assistant” application and web portal, as they work on structured research assignments. While Zotero is known as a powerful citation manager, my practice focuses on its features that are most relevant to storing, organizing, and sharing resources while working on both informal …

Faculty Books & Book Chapters
Undergraduate research is a specific pedagogical practice with an impact on teaching and learning, and the definition of what counts as research continues to expand to include different types of projects, mentors, and institutions. Diversity, equity, and inclusion in librarians’ work with students and faculty are present and growing. Collaborations between faculty, librarians, and students are furthering student knowledge in new ways. This community and an awareness of students’ non-academic challenges demonstrate the library’s contribution to students’ overall sense of belonging within their institutions. This chapter describes the involvement of an academic library with an undergraduate research program.

Our Journey To “Concourse D”: A Student-Developed Space For Creating, Collaborating, And Developing Community In The Library, Katy Kelly, Adrienne Ausdenmoore
Books and Book Chapters by University of Dayton Faculty
This case study describes an academic library’s student-developed communal space for the purposes of creating, collaborating, and project development. The story begins with an exciting process and partnership developed between University of Dayton (UD) Libraries and UD’s Institute of Applied Creativity for Transformation (IACT). An IACT experiential learning program led 12 students to research and reimagine the role of the campus library, which resulted in Concourse D, “where projects take flight,” a prototyped transdisciplinary project development studio. This mutually beneficial process led the library to a user-centric mindset as they reimagined space as service; patrons as creators; and a new …

Drawing To Conceptualize Research, Reduce Implicit Bias, And Establish Researcher Positionality In The Graduate Classroom, Alissa Droog, Kari D. Weaver, Frances Brady
Faculty Books & Book Chapters
Through reflection, coupled with literature to ground our thinking, this chapter discusses the experiences of three librarians with the use of conceptual drawings about research processes as an equitable pedagogical practice. This drawing technique has pushed each of us to understand research in different ways and reflect on our own positionality as researchers and as teachers in the classroom. First, Kari D. Weaver considers how drawing research shapes an individual’s understanding of themselves as a scholar. Second, Alissa Droog reflects on the use of drawing to understand how research relates to our identities. Finally, Frances Brady connects drawing to further …
