University Libraries at Coastal Carolina University acknowledges the importance of open access as a doorway to equity, access, and inclusion. In spring 2023, the library voted on and approved an open-access statement that encourages librarians to publish their work openly and to support faculty by providing guidance, encouraging the use of the institutional repository, and helping to fund the cost of open access.

We launched an open-access awareness program to educate librarians and faculty about these initiatives. We developed classes and, in order to promote them, we produced our own informative and concise videos to help librarians and faculty understand …

With this grant funded project, we are developing, piloting, assessing, and promoting a suite of micro-learning modules for undergraduate engineering, technology, and business students at a large, public university. The modules revolve around information literacy topics relevant to the workplace, integrated into a scalable micro-credentialing platform. In an effort to improve retention and promote library services to new incoming students, the Sherrod Library staff at East Tennessee State University discussed different ideas and decided to expand the Lending Technology Program & Personal Librarian (PL) program to include First Generation and Transfer students. To help decrease library anxiety, students received by email a weekly newsletter of events and workshops happening in the library. During 2020-21 two business faculty from different institutions together with OER librarians, undergraduate students, and graduate assistants conspired to create a faculty-access-only test bank aligned to senior undergraduate-level open textbook, Strategic Management (2020) and AACSB Standards. In early 2020, the coronavirus pandemic ushered in a “new normal.” During this time, the world witnessed a prevalence of misinformation about COVID-19, on social media, in the news, and in academic publishing. We saw this emerging landscape as an opportunity to help people think critically about ways to combat false or misleading information. The result: The COVID-19 Misinformation Challenge.

Each day for five days, participants received tasks designed to test their knowledge of the coronavirus. They evaluated memes, doctors, news headlines, treatments, and some of the science behind the virus.

Students come into class with varied levels of preparation for college-level research. Faculty had little time to spare for library instruction prior to COVID 19, and the move to online instruction has left them with even less time.

As these things were happening across higher education, the University of Maine system was changing learning management systems, leading to a steep learning curve for everyone. The University of Southern Maine Libraries saw an opportunity to address these challenges and remain visible to faculty.

The reality of space as an arena for international geopolitical and military competition has been around for decades in scholarly literature. This presentation will examine recently published and publicly accessible U.S. Government and military literature on Space Force. These works examine various economic, military, and political aspects of this entity and how it may affect U.S. national security policy in years to come.
