The Aids Virus And The Galvanization Of The Lgbtq Movement For Equality, Michael Ernest Wachowski
Graduate Theses
The LGBTQ community was greatly altered by the AIDS crisis and the organizations that were founded in the 1980s. AIDS would become associated with those of the gay community during the early years of the crisis. The government and leading health officials perpetuated the public’s ignorance about the relativity new disease leading to more misunderstandings and mishandlings of the HIV/AIDS crisis. The disease did not discriminate among people, however, and quickly spread throughout many of the communities in the U.S. Organizations with roots in the LGBTQ community established themselves during the 1980s to deal with not only the AIDS crisis, …

Do’S And Don’Ts: Everyday Etiquette (And Good Manners) For Everybody, Linda Driggers Williams
Dacus Library Faculty Publications
A note from the author: To demonstrate good manners, we show thoughtfulness, consideration, and kindness toward everyone we meet. To enhance good manners, we learn and use rules of etiquette, a code of conduct that systematizes our daily routines. When we practice good manners and apply etiquette rules every day, they become part of who we are. Then, we confidently accept social invitations, enjoy a business lunch, converse with a potential boss, have dinner with a president, meet a sweetheart’s parents, attend presentations and formal banquets, write letters correctly, make proper introductions, and much more. It is hoped that “Do’s …

Combat Psychology: Learning To Kill In The U.S. Military, 1947-2012, Patrick Mckinnie
Graduate Theses
In his 1947 work Men Against Fire: The Problem of Battle Command, historian S. L. A. Marshall convinced the U.S. government and military of the critical need for improved techniques in combat psychology. However, his more fundamental assertion that soldiers needed to be trained to overcome an innate psychological resistance to killing would prompt some in the military as well as scholars and medical experts to examine the heart and mind of the soldier in combat. As a result, an emergent science called killology became a critical component in the U.S. military’s quest to better train soldiers for the …
