The house at 1086 I Street was built for Isaac Minor by local contractor Theodore Dean in 1884 (Humboldt Standard, 2 Oct. 1884). During that same year, Dean oversaw the construction of two other houses and a store on the Minor Block. The milliner's shop at 1057 H Street was the first to be built (Humboldt Standard, 11 Feb. 1884), followed by Minor's own residence at the southwest corner of 11th and H Streets (Humboldt Standard, 18 July, 31 July, 2 Oct. 1884). The Syrian Ayyubid architecture of the thirteenth century reflects outstanding architectonic qualities of harmony and proportion. This study intends to demonstrate how the Madrasa al-Firdaus is a chef-d'oeuvre of this period.
