In November we were contacted by Mr. Kevin Buckley of Three Rivers, in response to a request for an archaeological survey made to him by the Michigan History Division, Department of State. The survey was carried out by Western Michigan University on December 7, 1979.

Pursuant to a letter from the office of Mr. John P. Woodford, Director, Michigan Department of Transportation, authorizing an archaeological survey of the Walton Road right-of-way designated Alternate 4, a team of archaeologists from Western Michigan University undertook on-site assessment of the project in order to determine whether or not road improvement activities would impact cultural resources. There follows a report of fieldwork conducted between 6-8 Aug 79, together with recommendations based upon our findings. The project was initiated upon receipt of a letter and contract dated 5 Apr 79 and signed by Mr. Wayne Writer, the Director of Recreation, City of Buchanan, Michigan. Our aim was to ascertain whether plans to create camping, river access (boat ramp) and parking facilities on land adjacent to the St. Joseph River north of Buchanan would impact cultural resources.

Hendershott, Administrator, Pullman Health Clinic, Inc., Pullman, Michigan, and at the request of Mr. Hendershott, the Department of Anthropology at Western Michigan University undertook limited testing of th~ Pullman Health Clinic site (20 AE 618) on 23 Jun 79. There follows a report of our activities and findings with respect to this archaeological site.

This survey was made at the request of Mr. Ronald Copping of the Kalamazoo Co. Road Commission in response to a request for survey by the Michigan History Division, Michigan Department of State. The purpose of the project was to determine the extant cultural resources of the areas to be impacted by the proposed Howard-Solon St. extension. The fieldwork for the project was carried out April 18, 1979.
