This survey was made at the request of Mr. Ronald Copping of the Kalamazoo Co. Road Commission in response to a request for survey by the Michigan History Division, Michigan Department of State. The purpose of the project was to determine the extant cultural resources of the areas to be impacted by the proposed Howard-Solon St. extension. The fieldwork for the project was carried out April 18, 1979.

The project was an archaeological survey of state-owned lands near the St. Augustine Prison; this area was surveyed to determine if cultural resources would be impacted by the development of a State Park. The fieldwork for the project was carried out on the 24th and 25th of April, 1978.

The purpose of the project was to determine whether or not extant cultural resources existed on a 76 acre parcel of land in the Fort Custer l1ilitary Reservation; this determination was to be made prior to the proposed exchange of the parcel from the U.S. government to the DNR. The fieldwork for the project was carried out on June 28, 1978.

Bigelow, State Historic Preservation Officer, to Mr. Barry Visel of Gave Associates, Inc. of Kalamazoo, and at the request of the City Council of Otsego, the Department of Anthropology at Western Michigan University undertook limited test excavation of the Grant Street site on 30 Nov 78. There follows a report of our activities and findings with respect to this site.

On April 26 and 27, 1977, an archaeological survey was undertaken at the request of Mr. Ron Copping of the Kalamazoo County Board of Road Commissioners. The survey involved reconnaissance of the proposed 24th Street and AB avenue project in Richland Twp. The road commission has planned to widen and pave this gravel road and to construct a new curve at the point where 24th Street and AB Avenue meet; this survey was undertaken to inspect proposed impact areas before construction takes place.

Following a meeting with Mr. Herbert Larkin of the Kalamazoo County Road Commission regarding the County's plans to expand a segment of the East Main Street right-of-way near the the intersection of East Main and Sprinkle Road in Kalamazoo Township, a survey team from the Department of Anthropology, western Michigan University undertook on-site evaluation of the project in order to ascertain whether the planned construction activities would impact significant cultural resources. There follows a report of the fieldwork undertaken on 19 Dec 75, together with recommendations based upon our findings.
