On behalf of VRRSP Consultants, LLC, and Central Texas Regional Water Supply Corporation (CTRWSC), SWCA Environmental Consultants (SWCA), conducted further intensive cultural resources investigations of the Vista Ridge Regional Water Supply (Vista Ridge) Project in Burleson, Lee, Bastrop, Caldwell, Guadalupe, Comal, and Bexar Counties. The project will involve installation of a 140.2-mile-long, 60-inch-diameter water pipeline from Deanville, Burleson County, Texas, to north-central San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas. Prewitt and Associates, Inc., conducted test excavations at site 41BU75 in Burleson County, Texas, to determine its eligibility for listing in the National Register of Historic Places and designation as a State Antiquities Landmark. The work was performed in 2007 under Texas Antiquities Permit No. 4525 for the Texas Department of Transportation, Environmental Affairs Division, in conjunction with a planned widening of FM 60, which will require up to 45 m of new right of way. The excavations consisted of six Gradall trenches and five 1x1-m hand-dug test units totaling 6.9 m3 , all on stateowned land. Excavations yielded a …

(PAI), conducted archeological testing and data recovery excavations at prehistoric site 41BU51 in Burleson County, Texas, for the Texas Department of Transportation, Environmental Affairs Division, in three phases of investigation. The first phase of testing, conducted in Spring 2003, resulted in the discovery of a single human burial as well as diagnostic artifacts ranging from the Archaic period through the Late Prehistoric period. A second phase of testing was conducted to search for additional burials in January 2004. This work resulted in the discovery of three additional burials and two isolated human bones. Testing of Site 41BU49 on FM 696 in Burleson County, Texas, was under-taken in March 1987 to determine eligibility for inclusion within the National Register of Historic Places and to make a recommendation for nomination as a State Archeological Landmark. Testing also was under-taken to determine site depth, cultural context, and archaeological significance. The site is located along a hill slope overlooking Buffalo Creek and consists of a shallow, low-density cultural deposit which may have been impacted by agricultural activities in the past. The exact site limit could not be determined due to heavy vegetation covering most of the area. …

Testing of Site 41BU24 on State Highway 36 in Burleson County, Texas, to determine eligibility for inclusion within the National Register of Historic Places and to determine site depth, cultural context, and archaeological signbficance, was undertaken in January 1985. The site is located on a ridge overlooking Yegua Creek and extends into the creek floodplain. It has been heavily impacted by previous construction activities and the exact site limit is difficult to determine. Results of testing indicate that Site 41BU24 contains a minimal prehistoric component of unknown age which is thoroughly mixed with modern debris. Evidence recovered does not support …

Construction activities during the replacement and upgrading of the State Highway 21 bridge over the Brazos River in Burleson County uncovered a previously unknown portion of archaeological Site 41BU16, the Reading Site, within the State Department of Highways and Public Transportation (SDHPT) right-of-way.

Efforts by local concerned citizens resulted in the salvaging of one partially intact burial and the notification of the SDHPT cultural resources staff.

Evidence recovered during SDHPT testing indicates that the area was occupied over an extensive period of time from the Archaic Period to the Late Prehistoric Period. Also indicated is a late nineteenth and early …

The Reading Site, 41BU16, is a prehistoric and historic site located in Burleson County, Texas, on the south terrace of the Brazos River at the crossing of State Highway 21. The site was first reported in 1972 but was not known to extend into the right-of-way of SH 21 until the clearing of heavy brush in the right-of-way in 1979 revealed its presence. Since that time the site has been known by local collectors, but the archaeology section of the State Department of Highways and Public Transportation (SDHPT) was not notified until August 25, 1983.
