Sea Quarks Contribution To The Nucleon Magnetic Moment And Charge Radius At The Physical Point, Raza Sabbir Sufian, Yi-Bo Yang, Jian Liang, Terrence Draper, Keh-Fei Liu

Physics and Astronomy Faculty Publications

We report a comprehensive analysis of the light and strange disconnected-sea quarks contribution to the nucleon magnetic moment, charge radius, and the electric and magnetic form factors. The lattice QCD calculation includes ensembles across several lattice volumes and lattice spacings with one of the ensembles at the physical pion mass. We adopt a model-independent extrapolation of the nucleon magnetic moment and the charge radius. We have performed a simultaneous chiral, infinite volume, and continuum extrapolation in a global fit to calculate results in the continuum limit. We find that the combined light and strange disconnected-sea quarks contribution to the nucleon …

Lattice Calculation Of Nucleon Isovector Axial Charge With Improved Currents, Jian Liang, Yi-Bo Yang, Keh-Fei Liu, Andrei Alexandru, Terrence Draper, Raza Sabbir Sufian

Physics and Astronomy Faculty Publications

We employ dimension-4 operators to improve the local vector and axial-vector currents and calculate the nucleon isovector axial coupling g3A with overlap valence on 2 + 1-flavor domain wall fermion (DWF) sea. Using the equality of g3A from the spatial and temporal components of the axial-vector current as a normalization condition, we find that g3A is increased by a few percent towards the experimental value. The excited-state contamination has been taken into account with three time separations between the source and sink. The improved axial charges g3A(24I) = 1.22(4)(3) …

Perturbative Renormalization And Mixing Of Quark And Glue Energy-Momentum Tensors On The Lattice, Michael J. Glatzmaier, Keh-Fei Liu, Yi-Bo Yang

Physics and Astronomy Faculty Publications

We report the renormalization and mixing constants to one-loop order for the quark and gluon energy-momentum (EM) tensor operators on the lattice. A unique aspect of this mixing calculation is the definition of the glue EM tensor operator. The glue operator is comprised of gauge-field tensors constructed from the overlap Dirac operator. The resulting perturbative calculations are performed using methods similar to the Kawai approach using the Wilson fermion and gauge actions for all QCD vertices and the overlap Dirac operator to define the glue EM tensor. Our results are used to connect the lattice QCD results of quark and …

Glue Spin And Helicity In The Proton From Lattice Qcd, Yi-Bo Yang, Raza Sabbir Sufian, Andrei Alexandru, Terrence Draper, Michael J. Glatzmaier, Keh-Fei Liu, Yong Zhao

Physics and Astronomy Faculty Publications

We report the first lattice QCD calculation of the glue spin in the nucleon. The lattice calculation is carried out with valence overlap fermions on 2 + 1 flavor domain-wall fermion gauge configurations on four lattice spacings and four volumes including an ensemble with physical values for the quark masses. The glue spin SG in the Coulomb gauge in the modified minimal subtraction (MS¯) scheme is obtained with one-loop perturbative matching. We find the results fairly insensitive to lattice spacing and quark masses. We also find that the proton momentum dependence of SG in the range 0 ≤ |p …

Pion Distribution Amplitude And Quasidistributions, A. V. Radyushkin Mar 2017

Pion Distribution Amplitude And Quasidistributions, A. V. Radyushkin

Physics Faculty Publications

We extend our analysis of quasidistributions onto the pion distribution amplitude. Using the formalism of parton virtuality distribution amplitudes, we establish a connection between the pion transverse momentum dependent distribution amplitude Ψ(x, k2⊥) and the pion quasidistribution amplitude (QDA) Qπ(y, p3). We build models for the QDAs from the virtuality-distribution-amplitude-based models for soft transverse momentum dependent distribution amplitudes, and analyze the p3 dependence of the resulting QDAs. As there are many models claimed to describe the primordial shape of the pion distribution amplitude, we present the p3-evolution …

Locality And Efficient Evaluation Of Lattice Composite Fields: Overlap-Based Gauge Operators, Andrei Alexandru, Ivan Horváth Jan 2017

Locality And Efficient Evaluation Of Lattice Composite Fields: Overlap-Based Gauge Operators, Andrei Alexandru, Ivan Horváth

Physics and Astronomy Faculty Publications

We propose a novel general approach to locality of lattice composite fields, which in case of QCD involves locality in both quark and gauge degrees of freedom. The method is applied to gauge operators based on the overlap Dirac matrix elements, showing for the first time their local nature on realistic path-integral backgrounds. The framework entails a method for efficient evaluation of such nonultralocal operators, whose computational cost is volume independent at fixed accuracy, and only grows logarithmically as this accuracy approaches zero. This makes computation of useful operators, such as overlap-based topological density, practical. The key notion underlying these …

Disconnected-Sea Quarks Contribution To Nucleon Electromagnetic Form Factors, Raza Sabbir Sufian Jan 2017

Disconnected-Sea Quarks Contribution To Nucleon Electromagnetic Form Factors, Raza Sabbir Sufian

Theses and Dissertations--Physics and Astronomy

We present comprehensive analysis of the light and strange disconnected-sea quarks contribution to the nucleon electric and magnetic form factors. The lattice QCD estimates of strange quark magnetic moment GsM (0) = −0.064(14)(09) μN and the mean squared charge radius ⟨r2sE = −0.0043(16)(14) fm2 are more precise than any existing experimental measurements and other lattice calculations. The lattice QCD calculation includes ensembles across several lattice volumes and lattice spacings with one of the ensembles at the physical pion mass. We have performed a simultaneous chiral, infinite volume, and continuum extrapolation in …

Nonperturbative Evolution Of Parton Quasi-Distributions, A. V. Radyushkin Jan 2017

Nonperturbative Evolution Of Parton Quasi-Distributions, A. V. Radyushkin

Physics Faculty Publications

Using the formalism of parton virtuality distribution functions (VDFs) we establish a connection between the transverse momentum dependent distributions (TMDs) F(x,k2) and quasi-distributions (PQDs) Q(y,p3) introduced recently by X. Ji for lattice QCD extraction of parton distributions f(x). We build models for PQDs from the VDF-based models for soft TMDs, and analyze the p3 dependence of the resulting PQDs. We observe a strong nonperturbative evolution of PQDs for small and moderately large values of p3 reflecting the transverse momentum dependence of TMDs. Thus, the study of PQDs on the lattice …

Isoscalar 𝜋𝜋 Scattering And The Σ Meson Resonance From Qcd, Raúl A. Briceño, Jozef J. Dudek, Robert G. Edwards, David J. Wilson Jan 2017

Isoscalar 𝜋𝜋 Scattering And The Σ Meson Resonance From Qcd, Raúl A. Briceño, Jozef J. Dudek, Robert G. Edwards, David J. Wilson

Physics Faculty Publications

We present for the first time a determination of the energy dependence of the isoscalar ππ elastic scattering phase shift within a first-principles numerical lattice approach to QCD. Hadronic correlation functions are computed including all required quark propagation diagrams, and from these the discrete spectrum of states in the finite volume defined by the lattice boundary is extracted. From the volume dependence of the spectrum, we obtain the S-wave phase shift up to the KK¯ threshold. Calculations are performed at two values of the u, d quark mass corresponding to mπ=236,391  MeV, and the resulting amplitudes …

Role Of The Euclidean Signature In Lattice Calculations Of Quasidistributions And Other Nonlocal Matrix Elements, Raúl A. Briceño, Maxwell T. Hansen, Christopher J. Monahan Jan 2017

Role Of The Euclidean Signature In Lattice Calculations Of Quasidistributions And Other Nonlocal Matrix Elements, Raúl A. Briceño, Maxwell T. Hansen, Christopher J. Monahan

Physics Faculty Publications

Lattice quantum chromodynamics (QCD) provides the only known systematic, nonperturbative method for first-principles calculations of nucleon structure. However, for quantities such as light-front parton distribution functions (PDFs) and generalized parton distributions (GPDs), the restriction to Euclidean time prevents direct calculation of the desired observable. Recently, progress has been made in relating these quantities to matrix elements of spatially nonlocal, zero-time operators, referred to as quasidistributions. Still, even for these time-independent matrix elements, potential subtleties have been identified in the role of the Euclidean signature. In this work, we investigate the analytic behavior of spatially nonlocal correlation functions and demonstrate that …
