Dispersion Coefficients For Highly Excited Molecular States Of K2, Mircea Marinescu, Anthony F. Starace Nov 1997

Dispersion Coefficients For Highly Excited Molecular States Of K2, Mircea Marinescu, Anthony F. Starace

Anthony F. Starace Publications

We report results of theoretical calculations for the dispersion coefficients associated with the long-range interaction of two 39K atoms in the states 39K(4s)- 39K(5d,6d,7s). These results have been found by Wang et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 78, 4173 (1997)] to be in a good agreement with their measurements.

Absolute Triply Differential (E,2E) Cross Section Measurements For H With Comparison To Theory, J. Roder, H. Erhardt, Cheng Pan, Anthony F. Starace, Igor Bray, Dmitry V. Fursa

Anthony F. Starace Publications

Absolute triply differential (e,2e) cross section measurements are presented for H (for incident energies, E0, of 15.6 and 17.6 eV) for equal energy sharing and the θ12 = π configuration. Results of distorted partial wave calculations agree with the measurements; those of convergent close coupling calculations agree with the relative angular distributions, but are lower than experiment by factors of from 2 to 7. Relative experimental results for H for E0 = 14.6 eV show a qualitative change in shape, which agrees with theory. Implications of the absolute experimental results for the …

Resonance Feature In Al- Photodetachment Below The Al(3S24S 2S) Threshold, B.J. Davies, C.W. Ingram, D.J. Larson, Chien-Nan Liu, Anthony F. Starace Jul 1997

Resonance Feature In Al- Photodetachment Below The Al(3S24S 2S) Threshold, B.J. Davies, C.W. Ingram, D.J. Larson, Chien-Nan Liu, Anthony F. Starace

Anthony F. Starace Publications

Photodetachment of Al-(3s23p23 3P) near the threshold of the first excited state of neutral aluminum has been studied both experimentally and theoretically. A 19-keV mass-resolved Al- beam was intersected by a frequency-doubled neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet pumped dye-laser beam, and the fast atoms created by detachment processes were detected. Measurements just below the threshold of the first excited state, Al(3s24s2S), find a large resonance peak in the detachment signal. An eigenchannel R-matrix calculation generates a resonance structure that is qualitatively similar to the data and identifies the large resonance …

Three-Body Dispersion Coefficients For Alkali-Metal Atoms, Mircea Marinescu, Anthony F. Starace Mar 1997

Three-Body Dispersion Coefficients For Alkali-Metal Atoms, Mircea Marinescu, Anthony F. Starace

Anthony F. Starace Publications

We study the nonadditive part of the long-range interaction among three alkali-metal atoms in their ground states. Using nondegenerate perturbation theory, up to the third order, we have computed the dispersion coefficients C for three alkali-metal atoms interacting via their electric dipole moments. Both heteronuclear and homonuclear cases are considered. The numerical values for the C coefficients suggest that such three-body dipole interaction effects may not be neglected in the description of the long-range surface potential interaction for alkali-metal atoms. Furthermore, we show that approximate formulas for C of Midzuno and Kihara [J. Phys. Soc. Jpn. 11, 1045 (1956)] give …

Classical Interpretation Of The Quantum Description Of H- Photodetachment In Parallel E And B Fields, Qiaoling Wang, Anthony F. Starace Jan 1997

Classical Interpretation Of The Quantum Description Of H- Photodetachment In Parallel E And B Fields, Qiaoling Wang, Anthony F. Starace

Anthony F. Starace Publications

Total quantum mechanical cross sections for photodetachment of H- in parallel E and B fields are examined both analytically and numerically to extract information which has a classical interpretation, thereby complementing recent classical and semiclassical periodic orbit studies.
