Microphysical Approach To Nonequilibrium Dynamics Of Quantum Fields, Marcelo Gleiser, Rudnei O. Ramos

We examine the nonequilibrium dynamics of a self-interacting λφ4 scalar field theory. Using a real time formulation of finite temperature field theory we derive, up to two loops and O(λ2), the effective equation of motion describing the approach to equilibrium. We present a detailed analysis of the approxi- mations used in order to obtain a Langevin-like equation of motion, in which the noise and dissipation terms associated with quantum fluctuations obey a fluctuation-dissipation relation. We show that, in general, the noise is colored (time-dependent) and multiplicative (couples nonlinearly to the field), even though it is still Gaussian distributed. The noise …

We discuss in some detail the self-similar potentials of Shabat and Spiridonov which are reflectionless and have an infinite number of bound states. We demonstrate that these self-similar potentials are in fact shape invariant potentials within the formalism of supersymmetric quantum mechanics. In particular, using a scaling ansatz for the change of parameters, we obtain a large class of new, reflectionless, shape invariant potentials of which the Shabat-Spiridonov ones are a special case. These new potentials can be viewed as q-deformations of the single soliton solution corresponding to the Rosen-Morse potential. Self-Consistent Determination Of Electronic Structure And Elementary Excitations Of Finite Modulation-Doped Superlattices, Roger H. Yu

A self-consistent framework for the study of the electronic level structure of finite superlattices has been proposed. One of the surface states (Tamm states) found in our calculation crosses the Fermi energy in the energy gap when the depletion effect near the surface increases. We have shown the existence of low-energy Tamm states in our calculation when the surface barrier is lower than that of the interior. The electronic excitations of the superlattice have been studied via the electron-energy-loss function within the random-phase approximation. Two plasmon modes (well above the phonon response frequency) due to the Tamm states have also …

²H (D,Γ) ⁴He Polarization Observables At 20, 30, And 50 Mev, R. M. Whitton, H. R. Weller, E. Hayward, W. R. Dodge, S. E. Kuhn

Tensor and vector analyzing powers for the ²H (d,γ) ⁴He reaction have been obtained as a function of angle at Ed(lab) = 20, 30, and 50 MeV. Differential cross sections were extracted at 30 and 50 MeV. Data for Ayy(θ) and Ay(θ) were obtained at all three energies, while T20(θ) was also measured at Ed(lab) = 50 MeV. A direct capture calculation was performed and compared to the data. This calculation assumes point deuterons and that the reaction proceeds primarily via E2 radiation in this energy region.
