Using Rufdata For The Evaluation Of Assessment Authenticity: An Overview, Linda Moore

Programmatic evaluations are used by higher education institutions as part of their quality assurance and enhancement processes in the assessment and monitoring of academic programmes to ensure the maintenance of the standards, integrity and viability of these programmes. The type of evaluation most suited to this purpose is a utilisation-focused formative evaluation, which should be carried out in a structured and systematic manner. Saunder’s (2000) RUFDATA framework is a useful tool that can be used to both systematically plan and monitor the activities associated with such an evaluation project, being suited to projects at both small (e.g., module), medium (e.g., …

The Influence Of Soft Contact Lens Materials On The Central, Para-Central And Peripheral Corneal Endothelium, Aoife Lloyd Mckernan, Luisa Simo Mannion, Veronica O'Dwyer Aug 2018

The Influence Of Soft Contact Lens Materials On The Central, Para-Central And Peripheral Corneal Endothelium, Aoife Lloyd Mckernan, Luisa Simo Mannion, Veronica O'Dwyer

Other Resources

Title: The influence of soft contact lens materials on the central, para-central and peripheral corneal endothelium prior to and following two weeks cessation of soft contact lens wear.

Purpose: To examine the influence of a variety of soft contact lens (SCL) materials on the central, para-central and peripheral corneal endothelium measurements, prior to and following two weeks cessation of SCL wear.

Methods: Endothelial measurements were taken using the CEM-530 (Nidek, Japan) specular microscope. Full-time SCL wearers (n = 31 eyes) were compared to a non-contact lens (NCL) control group (n = 28 eyes) of a similar age. Seven areas of …

Irish Healthcare Staff - Smoking, Training And Activity In Treatment Of Tobacco Dependence - An Online Survey, Sheila Keogan Jan 2016

Irish Healthcare Staff - Smoking, Training And Activity In Treatment Of Tobacco Dependence - An Online Survey, Sheila Keogan

Other Resources

INTRODUCTION Ireland has strong tobacco control legislation but must get smokers to stop if the national plan of having a smoking prevalence of 5% by the year 2025 is possible. Involving all healthcare staff in this effort is regarded as important. We surveyed the present situation. METHODS An online survey was conducted of 1257 healthcare staff; 520 nurses, 440 doctors, 297 dentists in 2014. The sample was accessed with the help of the Irish Nurses and Midwifes Organisation (INMO), Irish Medical Organisation (IMO) and the Irish Dental Association (IDA). The questionnaire addressed individual smoking habits and attitudes, training and practice …

The Prevalence Of Demodex Folliculorum On Eyelashes Of Symptomatic And Asymptomatic Normal Patients, Aoife Lloyd Mckernan, Veronica O'Dwyer, Orla Murphy May 2015

The Prevalence Of Demodex Folliculorum On Eyelashes Of Symptomatic And Asymptomatic Normal Patients, Aoife Lloyd Mckernan, Veronica O'Dwyer, Orla Murphy

Other Resources

Purpose

To examine the prevalence of Demodex Folliculorum (DF) on the eyelashes of symptomatic and asymptomatic patients. DF is an eight legged ectoparasite present in humans. It is most commonly found on the face; cheeks, nose, chin and eyelashes. Ocular symptoms of DF infestation on the eyelashes include itching, dryness, surface irritation, burning, foreign body sensation, photophobia and reduced vision1

Method

Students and patients of the National Optometry Centre (NOC) (n=54), aged 19 – 78 years of age were assessed and sub-divided into 4 groups; Group (1) Control (n=12), Group (2) Signs, no symptoms (n = ?), Group (3) Symptoms, …

The Effect Of Two Weeks And Twenty-Four Hours Soft Contact Lens Cessation Times On Corneal Refractive Surgery Outcomes, Aoife Lloyd Mckernan, Luisa Simo Mannion, Veronica O'Dwyer Jan 2015

The Effect Of Two Weeks And Twenty-Four Hours Soft Contact Lens Cessation Times On Corneal Refractive Surgery Outcomes, Aoife Lloyd Mckernan, Luisa Simo Mannion, Veronica O'Dwyer

Other Resources

Purpose

To investigate the influence of previous soft contact lens (SCL) wear on outcomes of corneal refractive surgery (CRS). SCL wear can reduce accuracy of pre-operative corneal measurements and outcomes of CRS. Short SCL cessation times prior to CRS may be insufficient for resolution of SCL-induced corneal changes. It was hypothesised that the visual and refractive CRS outcomes would be worse in a SCL group compared to a non-contact lens (NCL) group and worse in a SCL group who ceased SCL wear for 24 hours when compared to those who ceased SCL wear for two weeks prior to examination and …

Resonant Vibrations Of The Irish Folk Harp, Patrick Healy Jan 1993

Resonant Vibrations Of The Irish Folk Harp, Patrick Healy

Other Resources

An analysis of the resonant vibration of an O’Meachair cedar and mahogany Irish folk harp is reported. A report is also made of a small number of measurements carried out on an O’Meachair spruce and maple Irish folk harp. The structure and operation of the harp is described.

The theory of small vibrations of plates and wooden boards is set out.

The system devised to measure input admittance at driving points on the harp body over a frequency range O-2 kHz is described. Tests of its linearity and out of its frequency flatness are reported.

Resonant vibrations of an isolated …
