Geology Of The Ogallala/High Plains Regional Aquifer System In Nebraska: Field Trip No. 6, Robert F. Diffendal Jr.

Robert F. Diffendal, Jr., Publications

This guide is mostly figures with a reference section containing some of the pertinent literature on the Cenozoic geology we will see over the next four days. We will make all 17 stops if the weather is reasonably good and the roads are passable. On the first day, April 29, we will try to get to stops 1–5, the more distal parts of the Ogallala and younger deposits in Nebraska. On April 30, we will try to visit stops 6–9. Stops 10–15, in areas closer to the sediment sources of the Ogallala and some of the younger units, will be …

Stratigraphy And Structure At The Southern End Of Lake Champlain In Benson, Vermont, Jennifer L. Granducci Jan 1995

Stratigraphy And Structure At The Southern End Of Lake Champlain In Benson, Vermont, Jennifer L. Granducci

Geology Theses and Dissertations

Detailed mapping and structural investigations in an area bound to the west by the Grenvillian basement of the Adirondack Mountains and to the east by the allochthonous slates of the Taconic Mountains led to the distinction of a Western Undeformed Zone and an Eastern Deformed Zone. The former is composed of the gently east-dipping shelf sequence of upper Cambrian to lower Ordovician clastics and carbonates which unconformably overlie the Precambrian basement. The latter is characterized by lower to middle Ordovician carbonates, striking roughly north-south and dipping predominantly to the east, which are overlain by well-cleaved shales and slates. The stratigraphic …

Geologic Map Of Morrill County, Nebraska, James B. Swinehart, Robert F. Diffendal Jr. Jan 1995

Geologic Map Of Morrill County, Nebraska, James B. Swinehart, Robert F. Diffendal Jr.

Robert F. Diffendal, Jr., Publications

Morrill County, Nebraska, is perhaps the most geologically interesting county in the panhandle of Nebraska. Surficial deposits of alluvium, colluvium, loess, and eolian sand of Quaternary age cover large parts of the county. Holocene and latest Pleistocene(?) eolian sand as much as 150 It thick covers much of the area north of North Platte Valley and mantles Quaternary alluvial deposits to the south. A thin veneer of loess overlies bedrock in the uplands of the southern part of the county. Alluvium underlies the valley floors and caps river and stream terraces. Two units of older Quaternary alluvium are exposed in …

1) I woke up this morning; saw a big rock in the sky.

I woke up this morning; I knew I was gonna die.

It's the end of an era; I knew I was gonna die.

2) We were much bigger than the rats and fish.

We were the kings on the land and the sea.

But when that stone came down, we disappeared from the scene.

Seismic Stratigraphic Analysis Of The Upper Indus-Fan Complex A Model For Fan Development, Syed Firasat Shah Jan 1995

Seismic Stratigraphic Analysis Of The Upper Indus-Fan Complex A Model For Fan Development, Syed Firasat Shah

OES Theses and Dissertations

The seismic stratigraphic analysis of the upper Indus-Fan Complex has revealed the presence of six depositional sequences. Deposition of these sequences occurred primarily during the Miocene period. The Indus River drainage system that developed as a consequence of Himalayan orogeny transported the bulk of the sediments deposited in the Indus Fan. The distribution and thickness of the sequences of the upper Indus Fan are closely related to the canyon-channel systems. Seismic facies analysis of the slope has revealed the presence of a facies relationship that shows continued deepening from the time of deposition of slope fan to the latest deposits …

Miocene Paleogeography Of West-Central California--Offset Along The San Gregorio-Hosgri Fault Zone, Clarence Hall Jr, Mark Sutherland, Raymond Ingersoll Dec 1994

Miocene Paleogeography Of West-Central California--Offset Along The San Gregorio-Hosgri Fault Zone, Clarence Hall Jr, Mark Sutherland, Raymond Ingersoll

Mark Sutherland

The major faults that occur in the region are described and the amount of lateral offset used to construct palinspastic maps is given. The longest, most controversial, and most critical fault relative to the palinspastic maps is the San Gregorio-San Simeon-Hosgri fault, which is discussed in detail
