Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
Organizing school libraries not only keeps library materials, but helps students and teachers in completing tasks in the teaching process so that national development goals are in order to improve community welfare by producing quality and competitive human resources. The purpose of this study is to analyze the Unsupervised Learning technique in conducting cluster mapping of the number of libraries at education levels in Indonesia. The data source was obtained from the Ministry of Education and Culture which was processed by the Central Statistics Agency (abbreviated as BPS) with url: bps.go.id/. The data consisted of 34 records where the attribute …

Blockchain In Libraries, Michael Meth
Blockchain In Libraries, Michael Meth
Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity
This issue of Library Technology Reports (vol. 55, no. 8), “Blockchain in Libraries,” examines the application of blockchain in libraries. Blockchain technology has the ability to transform how libraries provide services and organize information. To date, most of these applications are still in the conceptual stage. However, sooner or later, development and implementation will follow. This report is intended to provide a primer on the technology and some thought starters. In chapter 2, the concept of blockchain is explained. Chapter 3 provides eight thought and conversation starters that look at how blockchain could be applied in libraries. Chapter 4 looks …

Researchers from academia and the corporate-sector rely on scholarly digital libraries to access articles. Attackers take advantage of innocent users who consider the articles' files safe and thus open PDF-files with little concern. In addition, researchers consider scholarly libraries a reliable, trusted, and untainted corpus of papers. For these reasons, scholarly digital libraries are an attractive-target and inadvertently support the proliferation of cyber-attacks launched via malicious PDF-files. In this study, we present related vulnerabilities and malware distribution approaches that exploit the vulnerabilities of scholarly digital libraries. We evaluated over two-million scholarly papers in the CiteSeerX library and found the library …

Student Scholarship – Computer Science
This report compares a manual process to a semi-automated process (SUSHI) for collect eResource statistical data for a university library. Along the way with the discussion will show the need for statistical data for an organization. Also, the reason for utilizing an open source software CORAL to help with the SUSHI process. Finally concluding with a recommendation as how to proceed after the findings.
Implementation And Testing Of A Book Lookup System For The Robert E. Kennedy Library, Casey C. Sheehan
Implementation And Testing Of A Book Lookup System For The Robert E. Kennedy Library, Casey C. Sheehan
Computer Science and Software Engineering
The goal of this senior project centered around improving the quality of student and teacher experiences when visiting the library. The task of finding a book amongst the shelves is an arduous one, which I felt could be improved upon through implementation and testing of a Book Lookup system for the Cal Poly Robert E. Kennedy Library. Development for this project was done using a Python framework. Testing and earlier designs were also created using JavaScript and PHP. Repeated tests were conducted on the accuracy of the software and its ability to decrease user search-time when compared to conventional methods.
Api Recommendation System For Software Development, Ferdian Thung
Api Recommendation System For Software Development, Ferdian Thung
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
Nowadays, software developers often utilize existing third party libraries and make use of Application Programming Interface (API) to develop a software. However, it is not always obvious which library to use or whether the chosen library will play well with other libraries in the system. Furthermore, developers need to spend some time to understand the API to the point that they can freely use the API methods and putting the right parameters inside them. In this work, I plan to automatically recommend relevant APIs to developers. This API recommendation can be divided into multiple stages. First, we can recommend relevant …

Building A New Academic Library Web Site, Ann S. Johnston Mrs., Pam Greenlee, Matt W. Marcukaitis, Ian M. Lopshire
Faculty Scholarship – Library Science
The Benner Library Web site at Olivet Nazarene University was targeted for an update and those responsible desired a systematic, efficient approach to the process. The project needed clear goals and careful coordination of all stakeholders, including all levels of patrons, library professionals and staff, and university administrators. A team composed of web developers, programmers, and graphic designers accomplished the technological process, but communication between team members and stakeholders was essential. The methodical approach proved to be time-consuming, but effective.
Object Oriented Implementation Of The Parallel Toolkit Library, Sandhya Vinnakota
Object Oriented Implementation Of The Parallel Toolkit Library, Sandhya Vinnakota
Computer Science Graduate Projects and Theses
With manufacturing efficiencies and technological innovation the computing power of commodity machines has been increasing accompanied by decreasing costs. With the very favorable price/performance ratio the computing community has shifted from monolithic machines to networked machines.
This has created the need for software to manage the parallelism of the network. One such work has been the Parallel Toolkit Library. The Parallel Toolkit Library provides support for common design functionalities used throughout parallel programs.
This work extends the PTK C library for C++ parallel programs. The motivation for the current project stems from the need to let parallel programs reap the …

An Analysis of the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Technology Implementation within an Independent Public Library System:
A Case Study of the North Canton, Ohio Public Library
by
Keith P. Lyons
June 2010
Public libraries require efficient control systems to maintain accurate inventories, statistics, and records of patron borrowing. Generally, public libraries use barcode technology to accomplish these tasks. Radio frequency identification (RFID) has gained the attention of public library personnel in recent years as a replacement for barcodes. RFID implementation contributes to improved staff productivity, increased operational efficiency, and improved item security as well. While potential benefits are significant, issues …

Digital Audio In The Library, Richard Griscom
Richard Griscom
An incomplete draft of a book intended to serve as a guide and reference for librarians who are responsible for implementing digital audio services in their libraries. The book is divided into two parts. Part 1, "Digital Audio Technology," covers the fundamentals of recorded sound and digital audio, including a description of digital audio formats, how digital audio is delivered to the listener, and how digital audio is created. Part 2, "Digital Audio in the Library," covers digitizing local collections, providing streaming audio reserves, and using digital audio to preserve analog recordings.
Improving Library Searches Using Word-Correlation Factors And Folksonomies, Maria Soledad Pera
Improving Library Searches Using Word-Correlation Factors And Folksonomies, Maria Soledad Pera
Theses and Dissertations
Libraries, private and public, offer valuable resources to library patrons; however, formulating library queries to retrieve relevant results can be difficult. This occurs because when using a library catalog for library searches, patrons often do not know the exact keywords to be included in a query that match the rigid subject terms (chosen by the Library of Congress) or terms in other fields of a desired library catalog record. These improperly formulated queries often translate into a high percentage of failed searches that retrieve irrelevant results or no results at all. This explains why frustrated library patrons nowadays rely on …
