Degradation Of Dye Containing In Textile Wastewater By Sequential Process: Photocatalytic And Biological Treatment, Jose Carlos Mendoza Hernandez, Gabriela Perez Osorio, Jose Eligio Moises Gutierrez Arias, Josefina Castañeda Camacho

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

In this research, a combined photocatalytic and biological treatment is proposed for the elimination of pollutants present in textile wastewater using a natural erionite zeolite (PE) and aluminum oxide (PA) synthesized by the sol-gel method as photocatalysts, and solar radiation. Both catalysts were characterized by XRD, SEM, and EDS. For biological treatment two bacterial consortium were used: BC1 (Escherichia coli N16, Serratia k120, Pseudomonas putida B03 and Enterobacter hormaechei), and consortium BC2 (Escherichia coli N16, Serratia Mc107, Enterobacter N9, Enterobacter hormaechei Mc9). The photocatalytic and microbiological treatments were carried out initially separately and subsequently in a …

Density Functional Study Of The Structure And Water Adsorption Activity Of An Al$_{30}$O$_{30}$ Star-Shaped Alumina Nanocage, Mehdi Zamani Jan 2016

Density Functional Study Of The Structure And Water Adsorption Activity Of An Al$_{30}$O$_{30}$ Star-Shaped Alumina Nanocage, Mehdi Zamani

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Molecular and electronic structures of a novel Al$_{30}$O$_{30}$ star-shaped alumina nanocage (SANC) were studied using the recently developed CAM-B3LYP density functional method. Comparison of the stretching vibrational modes of this compound with the corresponding modes related to an Al$_{20}$O$_{30}$ perfect cage and Al$_{50}$O$_{75}$ tubular alumina nanomaterials showed a shift to lower frequencies, while the bending modes moved to higher frequencies. The highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) of the SANC had 65% nonbonding character, whereas the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) was 72% antibonding. The HOMO and LUMO of the SANC arose mostly from Al 3s and 2p atomic orbitals. The …

An Indirect Model For Sintering Thermodynamics, Yüksel Sarikaya, Müşerref Önal Jan 2016

An Indirect Model For Sintering Thermodynamics, Yüksel Sarikaya, Müşerref Önal

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

A model was proposed and used to calculated the changes in enthalpy $(\Delta H^{o})$, entropy $(\Delta S^{o}),$ and Gibbs energy $(\Delta G^{o})$, as well as equilibrium constant $(K)$ relating to the sintering of alumina compacts. Specific nanopore volume $(V)$ of the compacts was assumed as a thermodynamic variable. A hypothetical equilibrium constant $(K_{h})$ and corresponding Gibbs energy $(\Delta G_{h}^{o})$ were calculated depending on the $V$ value measured after each sintering. The thermodynamic relationships with the SI units were respectively evaluated for the initial-stage $(i)$ sintering between 1000 and 1200 $^{\circ}$C and final-stage $(f)$ sintering between 1200 and 1600 $^{\circ}$C in …

On-Line Preconcentration And Speciation Of Chromium By An 8-Hydroxyquinoline Microcolumn Immobilized On Surfactant-Coated Alumina And Flow Injection Atomic Absorption Spectrometry, Seyyed Hamid Ahmadi, Ali Mohammad Haji Shabani, Shayessteh Dadfarnia, Masoumeh Taei Jan 2007

On-Line Preconcentration And Speciation Of Chromium By An 8-Hydroxyquinoline Microcolumn Immobilized On Surfactant-Coated Alumina And Flow Injection Atomic Absorption Spectrometry, Seyyed Hamid Ahmadi, Ali Mohammad Haji Shabani, Shayessteh Dadfarnia, Masoumeh Taei

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

An on-line technique for the determination of chromium species with atomic absorption spectrometry is described. The method is based on separation and preconcentration of Cr(III) on a microcolumn of immobilized 8-hydroxyquinoline on surfactant-coated alumina. The adsorbed analyte is then eluted with 400 \mu L of 20% ethanolic solution of 1.5 mol L^{-1} hydrochloric acid and is transported to a flame atomic absorption spectrometer for quantification. The effects of pH, sample and eluent flow rate, sorption capacity, and the presence of various cations and anions on the sorption of Cr(III) were investigated. The sorption was quantitative in the pH 6-8 range, …

Solvent, Temperature And Concentration Effects On The Adsorption Of Poly(N-Butyl Methacrylate) On Alumina From Solutions, Nursel Pekel, Olgun Güven Jan 2002

Solvent, Temperature And Concentration Effects On The Adsorption Of Poly(N-Butyl Methacrylate) On Alumina From Solutions, Nursel Pekel, Olgun Güven

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Adsorption of poly(n-butyl methacrylate) (PnBMA) on alumina from solution was studied by UV and FT-IR Photoacoustic Spectroscopy techniques. The effects of the solvent, temperature, concentration, and molecular weight of the polymer on adsorption were investigated. Three solvents, cyclohexane, carbon tetrachloride and benzene, were employed. The adsorption was dependent on molecular weight and much more polymer was adsorbed in cyclohexane than in other solvents on the alumina surface. A decrease in adsorption was observed with increasing temperature. The results are in conformity with Langmuir's isotherm. The differences observed in Langmuir parameters were explained by polymer-polymer, polymer-solvent, polymer-adsorbent, and solvent-adsorbent interactions.
