Eighth Eastern Wildlife Damage Management Conference (1997)

We conducted a content analysis of regional New York State newspapers to assess media coverage of the Department of Environmental Conservation’s (DEC) deer management program. The goal of this analysis was to ascertain media depiction of DEC’s deer management program during the 1985-97 time period. Specifically, this research examines how deer management issues were portrayed both prior to and after implementation of a DEC public participation program (the Citizen Task Force [CTF] process) to determine if deer management issues received more favorable coverage after CTFs were implemented.

As the hotel industry grows more competitive, quality guest service becomes an increasingly important part of managers' responsibility measuring the quality of service delivery is facilitated when managers know what types of assessment methods are available to them. The authors present and discuss the following available measurement techniques and describe the situations where they best meet the needs of hotel managers: management observation, employee feedback programs, comment cards, mailed surveys, personal and telephone interviews, focus groups, and mystery shopping.

SA V distribution data in this report are presented and discussed based on the segmentation scheme adopted by the Chesapeake Bay Program (Flemer et al., 1983) and described briefly in the Methods section of this report. This zonation scheme (Upper, Middle, and Lower zones) for Chesapeake Bay, which accommodates the Chesapeake Bay Program segmentation boundaries, was adapted from that used in previous SAV distribution reports (i.e., Orth et al., 1994) and established by Orth and Moore ( 1982), then modified by Orth et al., ( 1989).
