Gauge Transformations Of The Biconformal Connection, James Thomas Wheeler Dec 2014

Gauge Transformations Of The Biconformal Connection, James Thomas Wheeler

All Physics Faculty Publications

We study the changes of the biconformal gauge fields under the local rotational and dilatational gauge transformations.

Topics In Gravitational-Wave Astrophysics, Prayush Kumar Dec 2014

Topics In Gravitational-Wave Astrophysics, Prayush Kumar

Dissertations - ALL

In this dissertation we study the applicability of different waveform models in

gravitational wave searches for comparable mass binary black holes. We determine

the domain of applicability of the computationally inexpensive closed form models,

and the same for the semi-analytic models that have been calibrated to Numerical

Relativity simulations (and are computationally more expensive). We further explore

the option of using hybrid waveforms, constructed by numerically stitching analytic

and numerical waveforms, as filters in gravitational wave detection searches. Beyond

matched-filtering, there is extensive processing of the filter output before a detection

candidate can be confirmed. We utilize recent results from …

Weyl Gravity As General Relativity, James Thomas Wheeler Jul 2014

Weyl Gravity As General Relativity, James Thomas Wheeler

James Thomas Wheeler

When the full connection of Weyl conformal gravity is varied instead of just the metric, the resulting vacuum field equations reduce to the vacuum Einstein equation, up to the choice of local units, if and only if the torsion vanishes. This result differs strongly from the usual fourth-order formulation of Weyl gravity.

Geophysical Analysis And Modelling Of The S‹Mav Basin, Western Anatolia, Ceyhan Ertan Toker Jun 2014

Geophysical Analysis And Modelling Of The S‹Mav Basin, Western Anatolia, Ceyhan Ertan Toker

Bulletin of the Mineral Research and Exploration

The various data processing techniques, to illuminate the parameters of the geological structure which are applied in gravity and magnetic potential field methods. Also edge detection procedures are in data processing techniques. In this study, 2D, 3D, inversion and asta technique is one of the new edge detection procedures were applied to clarify correlation between the Simav half graben’s deep position and geometry of the tectonic lineaments. The Asta is obtained using the tilt angle.

Gravity & Electromagnetism On The Null Cone, Maria Babiuc-Hamilton May 2014

Gravity & Electromagnetism On The Null Cone, Maria Babiuc-Hamilton

Physics Faculty Research

Gravitational and electromagnetic radiation travel along light rays, which are principal null directions in space-time. They are characteristic surfaces of Einstein and Maxwell equations. In characteristic coordinates, the field is described by ordinary differential equations.

Geophysical Model Of The Cu-Mo Porphyry Ore Deposit At Copper Flat Mine, Hillsboro, Sierra County, New Mexico, Adrian Emmanuel Gutierrez Jan 2014

Geophysical Model Of The Cu-Mo Porphyry Ore Deposit At Copper Flat Mine, Hillsboro, Sierra County, New Mexico, Adrian Emmanuel Gutierrez

Open Access Theses & Dissertations

A 3D gravity model of the Copper Flat Mine was performed as part of the exploration of new resources in at the mine. The project is located in the Las Animas Mining District in Sierra County, New Mexico. The mine has been producing ore since 1877 and is currently owned by the New Mexico Copper Corporation, which plans o bringing the closed copper mine back into production with innovation and a sustainable approach to mining development. The Project is located on the Eastern side of the Arizona-Sonora-New Mexico porphyry copper Belt of Cretaceous age. Copper Flat is predominantly a Cretaceous …

Conformal Gravity Holography In Four Dimensions, Daniel Grumiller, Maria Irakleidou, Iva Lovrekovic,, Robert Mcnees Jan 2014

Conformal Gravity Holography In Four Dimensions, Daniel Grumiller, Maria Irakleidou, Iva Lovrekovic,, Robert Mcnees

Physics: Faculty Publications and Other Works

We formulate four-dimensional conformal gravity with (anti–)de Sitter boundary conditions that are weaker than Starobinsky boundary conditions, allowing for an asymptotically subleading Rindler term concurrent with a recent model for gravity at large distances. We prove the consistency of the variational principle and derive the holographic response functions. One of them is the conformal gravity version of the Brown–York stress tensor, the other is a “partially massless response”. The on shell action and response functions are finite and do not require holographic renormalization. Finally, we discuss phenomenologically interesting examples, including the most general spherically symmetric solutions and rotating black hole …

Geophysical Investigation Of Hot Springs In The Vicinity Of Shoshone, California, Felix Dziedzorm Ziwu Jan 2014

Geophysical Investigation Of Hot Springs In The Vicinity Of Shoshone, California, Felix Dziedzorm Ziwu

Open Access Theses & Dissertations

Magnetic and gravity surveys were conducted in the vicinity of Shoshone, California to test a hypothesis from investigating hotsprings within Tecopa and Saratoga which states that deep faults must intersect with a specific orientation relative to the regional stress field in order to create hot springs along the Amargosa River.

Three isolated basalt flows with different gravity and magnetic properties were identified near the Shoshone hot spring. Two of the flows have very low magnetic anomalies and the remaining one has a high magnetic anomaly. The high magnetic anomaly basalt flow also has a significantly higher Bouguer anomaly than the …
