Cyclotron Resonance In Graphene Heterostructurescyclotron Resonance In Graphene Heterostructures, Billy Jordan Russell Dec 2019

Cyclotron Resonance In Graphene Heterostructurescyclotron Resonance In Graphene Heterostructures, Billy Jordan Russell

Arts & Sciences Electronic Theses and Dissertations

We present observations of cyclotron resonance in graphene Van der Waals heterostructure devices. Such devices provide dramatic improvements in sample quality and allow for ad- vanced electronic control, opening windows on previously inaccessible physics. The design and construction of a dedicated system for the measurement of electronic transport and infrared magnetospectroscopy in microscopic samples of atomically thin materials at cryogenic temperatures is presented. In high-mobility encapsulated monolayer graphene, electron- electron interaction effects are unambiguously observed to impact the interband cyclotron resonance as the Landau level filling factor is varied in a quantizing magnetic field. Additionally, a splitting of transitions involving ...

Rhetsec_ | Rhetorical Security, Jennifer Mead Dec 2019

Rhetsec_ | Rhetorical Security, Jennifer Mead

Culminating Projects in English

Rhetsec_ examines the rhetorical situation, the rhetorical appeals, and how phishing emails simulate "real" emails in five categories of phishing emails. While the first focus of cybersecurity is security, you must also understand the language of computers to know how to secure them. Phishing is one way to compromise security using computers, and so the computer becomes a tool for malicious language (phishing emails and malware) to be transmitted. Therefore to be concerned with securing computers, then you must also be concerned with language. Language is rhetoric's domain, and the various rhetorical elements which create an identity of the ...

Data Set For An Empirical Analysis Of Search Engines’ Response To Web Search Queries Associated With The Classroom Setting, Oghenemaro Anuyah, Ashlee Milton, Michael Green, Maria Soledad Pera

Computer Science Faculty Scripts and Data

This archive contains queries that capture information in different search contexts. The first file includes those written by children between the 3rd - 6th grade levels, while performing search tasks. We collected and archived this data between the April 2017 -- December 2018, based on Boise State University's IRB approval. We also include simulated queries we extracted from children's reviews. Additional columns in this dataset are children's grade levels, the query source, and the query type (i.e., if it is a keyword, phrase, or question query). The other files are comprised of queries that are meant to lead ...

Crustal Density Variation Of The Eastern U.S., Henglei Zhang, Dhananjay Ravat, Anthony R. Lowry Nov 2019

Crustal Density Variation Of The Eastern U.S., Henglei Zhang, Dhananjay Ravat, Anthony R. Lowry

Earth and Environmental Sciences Research Data

EarthScope’s USArray Transportable Array (TA) has shortcomings for the purpose of interpreting geologic features of wavelengths less than the 70 km TA station spacing, but these can be overcome by using higher spatial resolution gravity data. In this study, we exploit USArray receiver functions to reduce non-uniqueness in the interpretation of gravity anomalies. We model gravity anomalies from previously-derived density variations of sedimentary basins, crustal Vp/Vs variation, Moho variation, and upper mantle density variation derived from body-wave imaging informed by surface wave tomography to estimate Vp/Vs. Although average densities and density contrasts for these seismic variations can ...

#27 - The Effects Of The Different Configurations Of The Periodic Kernels On Machine Learning Problems, Adrian Pizano, Hong Zhang, Hongjun Su, Issac Taylor Nov 2019

#27 - The Effects Of The Different Configurations Of The Periodic Kernels On Machine Learning Problems, Adrian Pizano, Hong Zhang, Hongjun Su, Issac Taylor

Georgia Undergraduate Research Conference (GURC)

Kernels as similarity measures among study objects are key components of machine learning algorithms such as Support Vector Machine (SVM) and Gaussian Process. Often the performance of a machine learning system depends highly on the effectiveness of the kernel to represent the similarity between objects. Capturing the special structural information of the data in the kernel can be useful in improving the system performance. One special property in the attributes of the data is periodicity. Examples of periodic attributes include the “time of day”, “day of the year”, and “position of a wave”. Applications involving seasonal economics data, environmental attributes ...

Investigations Of The Cohesion Of Nanoscale Bioactive With Titanium: A Molecular Dyanmics Approach Using Density Functional Theory And The Kohn-Sham Framework., Jerry Magaña

Georgia Undergraduate Research Conference (GURC)

ABSTRACT: In order to overcome the complications evolved with certain kinds of bone-replacement surgeries, especial in the field of dentistry, it has become common for manufactures of bone-prosthetic to apply a nano-scale, bioactive coating that improves the rate of integration with the host bone tissue (a process known as osseointegration). The most frequently used bio-active compound is hydroxyapite, or HaP. These coatings are applied to a titanium substrate via one of several application methods. One of the most pressing issues with these coatings is the problem of mechanical stability of the implant, which is undermined by a weaker bond between ...

Studying The Glacial Melt Of Mount Baker Using Remote Sensing (1999 - 2019), Cole Fletcher Oct 2019

Studying The Glacial Melt Of Mount Baker Using Remote Sensing (1999 - 2019), Cole Fletcher

Scholars Week

With rising temperatures glaciers around the globe are beginning to melt. Melting of large glaciers should be concerning as they can raise the present sea-level which could potentially put near sea-level urban areas underwater. We must observe the rate at which glaciers are retreating. Mountain glaciers are a good resource to observe as they do give a clear visual of how fast glaciers are retreating. This project hopes to give a good visual representation and quantitative measurement of how much glacial melt is occurring at Mt Baker in Washington, United States, in the last 20 years. This project will use ...

Configuration Files And Input Data Used For Radar Simulations Described In "The Cloud Resolving Model Radar Simulator (Cr-Sim) Version 3.2: Description And Applications Of A Virtual Observatory", Mariko Oue, Toshihisa Matsui, Pavlos Kollias

SoMAS Research Data

Ground-based observatories use multi-sensor observations to characterize cloud and precipitation properties. A challenge is how to design strategies to best use these observations to understand the atmosphere and evaluate atmospheric numerical prediction models. We have developed the Cloud resolving model Radar SIMulator (CR-SIM), which uses output from high-resolution atmospheric models to emulate multi-wavelength, zenith-pointing, and scanning radar observables and multi-sensor (multi-radar and radar-lidar) integrated products. Here, we publish configuration files used for radar simulations using CR-SIM and atmospheric simulation outputs from the Weather Research Forecasting (WRF) model, which were used as inputs for the radar simulations.

Where On Ice? Algorithmically Deconstructing Nhl Shot Locations As A Method For Player Classification, Devan Becker, Douglas G. Woolford, Charmaine B. Dean

Western Research Forum

Where do hockey players shoot from? How does this vary from player to player? We present the results of a study that uses data-driven statistical methods to investigate these questions. The locations of shots by National Hockey League (NHL) players from 2011 to 2017 are analyzed using a combination of an image recognition algorithm and spatial statistical methodology. An unsupervised classifier is applied to output from a spatial point process model in order to determine which shot locations best characterize a given player. We define the number of regions a priori, but the image recognition algorithm chooses the shape and ...
