Photochemical Behavior Of Some Nitrogen Heterocyclics, James Wesley Harris Mar 1975

Photochemical Behavior Of Some Nitrogen Heterocyclics, James Wesley Harris

Master's Theses

The compounds, 3,6-dimethoxypyridazine, l,2-dimethyl- 3,6(1H,2H)-pyridazinedione, and 6-methoxy-2-methyl-3(2H) pyridazinone, were prepared by using reported preparations. Their photochemistry was investigated and compared to the thermal chemistry and photochemistry of maleic hydrazide.

A Method For The Determination Of Solanesol In Tobacco, Ludwig Weissbecker Jan 1966

A Method For The Determination Of Solanesol In Tobacco, Ludwig Weissbecker

Master's Theses

The object or this work was to develop a procedure for the quantitative determination of solanesol in the petroleum ether extract of tobacco. The amount of tobacco extracted into petroleum ether is routinely used to differentiate tobacco types. The extraction procedures have been extensively studied by the Association of Official Agricultural Chemists (AOAC) and reported in the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Technical Bulletin # 1186.

There is at present no method for the quantitative determination of solanesol. One procedure which comes closest, involves an infrared measurement of the tobacco extract. Because of the presence of other bands, the …

Mass Spectra Correlations And The Appearance Potentials Of The Major Tobacco Alkaloids, William Frederick Kuhn Apr 1962

Mass Spectra Correlations And The Appearance Potentials Of The Major Tobacco Alkaloids, William Frederick Kuhn

Master's Theses

The main objectives of this investigation were three fold: (1) to design and fabricate a heated inlet system for the mass spectrometer; (2) to obtain the mass spectra of the major tobacco alkaloids under normal operating conditions; and ( 3) to determine the ionization potentials of the alkaloids as well as the appearance potentials of some of the major fragment ions derived from the alkaloids.

The mass spectrometer is designed to analyze only materials in the vapor state . Since some materials do not exert sufficient vapor pressure at room temperature under reduced pressure to be analyzed directly, it is …

A Chromatographic Study Of The Polyphenols In Cured Tobacco, Marvin Dennis Edmonds Jan 1960

A Chromatographic Study Of The Polyphenols In Cured Tobacco, Marvin Dennis Edmonds

Master's Theses

The object of this project was to isolate, separate, and identify the polyphenols in tobacco. Following this, the aim was to develop a method for the quantitative determination of the major polyphenols in tobacco.

Existing methods for the determination of polyphenols in tobacco involve lengthy procedures which are concerned with one or two of the polyphenols rather than the· complete class of compounds. The methods consist of exhaustive extraction procedures, lengthy chromatographic procedures and numerous methods of identification.

Extensive research on the determination of polyphenols by chromatography has been carried out in the field of tobacco and in other fields. …
