Variational Iteration Method For The Burgers' Flow With Fractional Derivatives—New Lagrange Multipliers, Guo-Cheng Wu, Dumitru Baleanu

The flow through porous media can be better described by fractional models than the classical ones since they include inherently memory effects caused by obstacles in the structures. The variational iteration method was extended to find approximate solutions of fractional differential equations with the Caputo derivatives, but the Lagrange multipliers of the method were not identified explicitly. In this paper, the Lagrange multiplier is determined in a more accurate way and some new variational iteration formulae are presented.

Efficient and reliable materials for gas separation, syngas production, and hybrid nuclear power plants must be capable of reliably operating at a high-temperature range of 700-1000°C and under exposure to highly oxidizing and reducing conditions. Candidate materials for these applications include alkaline metal doped lanthanum ferrite.

In the first study, the impact of A site substitution by different alkaline metals on lanthanum ferrite (LMF, M=Ca, Sr, and Ba) was investigated. The study focused on thermal expansion near the Néel transition temperature and a magneto-elastic contribution to thermal expansion was identified for each sample. In this study, the concentration and isotopic composition of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) and dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) are measured in the karst groundwater of the Otter Creek watershed of the Cumberland Plateau of Kentucky, USA. Comparisons among these data and with the geochemistry of carbonate and gypsum equilibrium reactions reveal that DOC concentration is inversely related to discharge, multiple reaction pathways provide DIC with isotopic enrichment that may be directly related to mineral saturation, and oxidation of reduced sulfur is possible for dissolution. DOC is derived from C3 vegetation with an average δ13CDOC of ‒27‰. DIC in groundwater is …

Copper oxide (CuO) nanosheets were obtained by a quick-precipitation method using Cu(NO3)2 and NaOH in the presence of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP). Different sizes of CuO nanosheets were achieved by varying the PVP concentration. The crystal structure, morphology, and optical properties of the CuO nanosheets were characterized by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, and diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. Higher PVP concentrations produced CuO nanosheets with enhanced crystalline structure, reduced particle size, and enlarged band gap. Small satellites, such as CubeSats, serve as excellent platforms for the collection of data that can be supplied to a geographic information system. To serve this need, they require a robust and lightweight task scheduler due to their limited onboard power production capabilities as well as internal space restrictions. Because of these constraints, schedules must be optimized; however, the scheduling optimization process must be performed using limited processing (CPU) power.

In order to enable the low-cost creation of small remote sensing space-craft in a university environment, a training pathway for students is required. OpenOrbiter is a student project at the University of North Dakota to design and build a low cost1 and open-hardware / open-source software CubeSat2. The Ground Station is the user interface for operators of the satellite. The ground station software must manage spacecraft communications, track its orbital location , manage task assignment, provide security and retrieve the data from the spacecraft. This will be presented via a graphical user interface that allows a user to easily perform these tasks.

Waste dumping is a serious environmental threat to major rivers from extra- Carpathian Region of Neamţ county in the proximity of villages because the lack of waste collection services. This manuscript considers the hydrology and geochemistry of water resources within Timpanogos Cave National Monument in American Fork, Utah. In particular, data are presented for five cave pools within the Monument and the American Fork River that flows through the Monument. Two independent dye trace attempts in this study have not established a connection between the surface near the canyon rim at the south border of the Monument and the cave pools or the river. Ion chemistry of the pools reveals elevated sulfate concentrations. Analysis of sulfate and other reaction products suggests the possibility of combined carbonic and sulfuric acids …

The impacts of long-lived stock pollutants and the measures supposed to address them link current and future generations. Altruism towards successor generations is a prerequisite for resolving the resulting inter-generational equity issues. Preference asymmetry and imperfect altruism introduce strategic conflicts between generations. Here, a current generation decides on a combination of abatement and whether to provide an imperfect backstop. The future generation decides whether to use the backstop or not. We identify three outcomes: (1) Technology denial, in which the current generation deliberately rejects the imperfect backstop to avoid misuse by the future generation. This paper presents a simplified approach to performing the Intelligent Water Drops (IWD) process. This approach is designed to be comparatively lightweight while approximating the results of the full IWD process. The Simplified Intelligent Water Drops (SIWD) approach is specifically designed for applications where IWD must be run in a computationally limited environment (such as on a robot, UAV or small spacecraft) or where performance speed must be maximized for time sensitive applications. The SWID approach is described and compared and contracted to the base IWD approach.

Digital humanities partners are sometimes external to the library’s institution. DePaul University Library assisted researchers at the National University of Ireland, Galway in preserving their catalogue of Vincentian documents by migrating metadata from an unstable server to Omeka.net, a hosted web publishing platform designed for cultural institutions. The library proposed Omeka.net after considering the collection’s requirements, the technical abilities of the researchers and their budget. We report an alternative approach to enhance the optical and electrical performance of a vanadyl 2,9,16,23-tetraphenoxy-29H,31H-phthalocyanine:poly(3hexylthiophene) (VOPcPhO:P3HT) blending system by integrating plasmonic spherical silver into an active layer of organic solar cells. Studies of the influence of the size distribution and optical properties of the silver nanoparticles were carried out using UV–Vis spectroscopy and field emission scanning electron microscopy, respectively. Electrical characteristics with and without the presence of metallic nanostructures were analyzed using J–V characteristics to observe the plasmonic effects on the performance in the VOPcPhO:P3HT organic solar cells.

Copper oxide (CuO) nanosheets synthesized in polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) were characterized with respect to antimicrobial activity by quick precipitation method. Different sizes and shapes of CuO nanosheets were obtained by simple variations of PVP concentrations. The x-ray diffraction results revealed the formation of pure-phase CuO with monoclinic structure. Transmission electron microscopy analysis showed that the average ratio of length to width of these nanosheets increased with increasing PVP concentrations. Due to the quantum size effect, CuO nanosheets exhibit a blue shift in the ultraviolet-visible spectra. Field emission scanning electron microscopy results showed that as the concentration of PVP increased, well-defined morphologies …
