The cold battery is a heat exchanger between two fluids, air (secondary fluid) and iced water (primary fluid). The cold battery is composed of two heat exchangers in series, one of which is made up of flat-plate in galvanized steel serving as a reservoir for the iced water and the other one a copper shelland-tube exchanger with aluminum cooling blades. The two heat exchangers a connected pipe of the same diameter. These pipes will permit the transit of the iced water coming from the flat-plate exchanger by gravitation towards the tubes of the second exchanger. These two heat exchangers are incorporated …

Early Rayleigh-Scatter Lidar Temperature Measurements From The Lower Thermosphere, Leda Sox, Vincent B. Wickwar
Early Rayleigh-Scatter Lidar Temperature Measurements From The Lower Thermosphere, Leda Sox, Vincent B. Wickwar
Leda Sox
Rayleigh-scatter lidar observations were made on many clear nights at the Atmospheric Lidar Observatory (ALO) at Utah State University (USU) from 1993 to 2004 in the altitude range 45–90 km. An upgraded facility, 66 times more sensitive, has been brought on line. It has resulted in temperature measurements with maximum altitudes that extend into new territory—the lower thermosphere. All-night temperature averages have been recorded up to an altitude of 114 km. Temperatures from each month, starting in June 2014, are presented and discussed. They are compared to each other, to the ALO-USU climatology from the original lidar, and to temperatures …

Adsorption Of Co2 Molecule On The (Mgo)9 And (Cao)9 Nanoclusters; A Theoretical Study, Innovative Research Publications Irp India, Fathi Hassan Bawa
Innovative Research Publications IRP India
Binding configurations of CO2 on (MgO)9 and (CaO)9 cluster models are investigated by means of density functional theory model calculations. The results show that CO2 adsorbs as monodentate on MgO and CaO terrace site leads to formation of surface carbonates CO3 2- . Marginal differences in the binding stabilities between the CO2 molecule and surface O2- site were found to be significantly similar. The estimated adsorption energies are 1.47 eV and 1.52 eV at the (MgO)9 and (CaO)9 clusters, respectively. The similarity in binding energies is discussed in terms of cluster electropositivity. Adsorbed CO2, to (MgO)9 surface vibration frequencies are …
Rapid Phase Transformation Under Local Non-Equilibrium Diffusion Conditions, Sergey Sobolev
Rapid Phase Transformation Under Local Non-Equilibrium Diffusion Conditions, Sergey Sobolev
Sergey Sobolev
Phase transformation with a moving interface occurs under far from local equilibrium conditions when the interface moves with sufficiently high velocity. This deviation cannot be adequately described by the classical irreversible thermodynamics with diffusion equation of parabolic type because it assumes local equilibrium hypothesis. The local non-equilibrium diffusion model has been developed to take into account the deviation from local equilibrium during binary alloy solidification using the hyperbolic diffusion equation. The model introduces a finite propagation velocity of concentration disturbances in the bulk liquid VD as the characteristic diffusion parameter and predicts a sharp transition from diffusion controlled to diffusionless …

Effect Of Eva Content Upon The Dielectric Properties In Ldpe-Eva Films, Innovative Research Publications Irp India, Hojjat, Amrollahi, Mahmood, Borhani
Innovative Research Publications IRP India
Low density polyethylene (LDPE) blends with different percentages of ethylene vinyl acetate polymer membranes were prepared by a hot press casting method. The effects of EVA content on the electrical properties of LDPE were studied. The results on the electrical properties revealed that the surface resistance, volume resistivity, and breakdown voltage of the LDPE decrease with EVA content and reach a minimum at a 30 wt% of EVA. Dielectric constant and dielectric loss factor were increased with increasing EVA content up to 30 wt% of EVA. It can be deduced that the electrical properties of LDPE are improved by blending …

James T Struck
Three discoveries I made from visiting the Field Museum of Natural History yesterday on Illinois Day 12/6/2015. Brontosaurus as a dinosaur name can be brought back as existing in Wyoming rather than Apatosaurus' Colorado, 5 vertebrae rather than 3 on Apatosaurus, and larger size are enough to argue for a unique species. Yale Professor Marsh had it right when he saw Brontosaurus as different than Apatosaurus; larger size, different location, different bones should revive the Brontosaurus name. Riggs spoke to soon when speaking against Brontosaurus as a separate name. Second discovery, a new theory of life on Earth origin that …

Midlatitude Mesospheric Temperature Anomalies During Major Ssw Events As Observed With Rayleigh-Scatter Lidar, Leda Sox, Vincent B. Wickwar, Chad Fish, Josh P. Herron
Leda Sox
While the mesospheric temperature anomalies associated with Sudden Stratospheric Warmings (SSWs) have been observed extensively in the polar regions, observations of these anomalies at midlatitudes are sparse. The original Rayleigh-scatter lidar that operated at the Atmospheric Lidar Observatory (ALO; 41.7°N, 111.8°W) in the Center for Atmospheric and Space Sciences (CASS) on the campus of Utah State University (USU) collected a very dense set of temperature data for 11 years, from 1993 through 2004. The temperatures derived from these data extended over the mesosphere, from 45 to 90 km. This work focuses on the extensive Rayleigh lidar observations made during seven …

An electrochemical cell using an organic compound, copper (II) phthalocyanine-tetrasulfonic acid tetrasodium salt (CuTsPc,) has been fabricated and investigated as a solution-based temperature sensor. The capacitance and resistance of the ITO/CuTsPc solution/ITO chemical cell has been characterized as a function of temperature in the temperature range of 25–80 °C. A linear response with minimal hysteresis is observed. The fabricated temperature sensor has shown high consistency and sensitive response towards a specific range of temperature values.

Photovoltaic Effect In Single-Junction Organic Solar Cell Fabricated Using Vanadyl Phthalocyanine Soluble Derivative, Shahino Mah Abdullah
Shahino Mah Abdullah
Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to study the optical and electrical characteristics of a single‐junction solar cell based on a green-color dye Vanadyl 2,9,16, 23-tetraphenoxy-29H, 31H-phthalocyanine (VOPcPhO). The use of soluble vanadyl phthalocyanine derivative makes it very attractive for photovoltaic applications due to its tunable properties and high solubility. Design/methodology/approach: A photoactive layer of VOPcPhO has been sandwiched between indium tin oxide (ITO) and aluminum (Al) electrodes to produce ITO/PEDOT:PSS/VOPcPhO/Al photovoltaic device. The VOPcPhO thin film is deposited by a simple spin coating technique. In order to obtain the optimal thickness for the solar cell device, different thicknesses …

Pi-conjugated organic semiconductors have long been used as either holes or electrons transport materials. Recently ambipolar charge carrier transport in these materials have been reported in many investigations. In this paper, we report on the basis of experimental results that the organic semiconductor (donor/acceptor) materials can be as good electrons transporters as these materials are holes transporters. In our study, the solution-processed unipolar diodes based on organic materials P3HT, VOPCPhO and their blends with PCBM have been fabricated. The I-V characteristics of these diodes have been analyzed in the space charge limited current regime. The values of the electron and …

This poster presents work on building a 3d scanner. A 3d scanner is a device that analyzes a real-world object to collect data on its shape and or appearance. The collected data can then be used to construct digital 3d models. The scanner is made up of 50 Raspberry Pi computer boards and cameras. We will construct 12 arms each holding four cameras per arm. The purpose of this is to be able to scan anything and produce a 3d model that we then would be able to send to the 3d printer or use in a video game or …
Solving The Instantaneous Response Paradox Of Entangled Particles Using The Time Of Events Theory, Sadeem Abbas Fadhil
Solving The Instantaneous Response Paradox Of Entangled Particles Using The Time Of Events Theory, Sadeem Abbas Fadhil
Sadeem Abbas Fadhil
In the present study, a new theory that relates the special theory of relativity with quantum mechanics is formulated and then used to explain the remote instantaneous response of entangled particles without the assumptions of nonlocality or hidden variables. The basic assumptions of the present theory stands on the foundation of two space-times, namely, the static and dynamic space-times, in which the latter contains space points that move at the speed of light. The remote instantaneous interaction of the entangled particles is due to the closeness of these particles to each other in the dynamic space-time in spite of remoteness …

Nonlocal Diffusion Models: Application To Rapid Solidification Of Binary Mixtures, Sergey Sobolev
Nonlocal Diffusion Models: Application To Rapid Solidification Of Binary Mixtures, Sergey Sobolev
Sergey Sobolev
Various theoretical treatments and models for nonlocal diffusion are briefly reviewed and discussed. The nonlocal effects arise in far from equilibrium processes, which involve extremely fast heat and mass transfer at very small time and length scales. With only diffusive dynamics, the nonlocal models result in a set of transfer equations of parabolic type with an infinite velocity of diffusive disturbances. With the wavelike dynamics, the models lead to a set of transfer equations of hyperbolic type with a finite velocity of diffusive disturbances. Rapid solidification of binary alloys has been used to illustrate the influence of the nonlocal diffusion …
Diffusion-Stress Coupling In Liquid Phase During Rapid Solidification Of Binary Mixtures, Sergey Sobolev
Diffusion-Stress Coupling In Liquid Phase During Rapid Solidification Of Binary Mixtures, Sergey Sobolev
Sergey Sobolev
An analytical model has been developed to describe the diffusion-viscous stress coupling in the liquid phase during rapid solidification of binary mixtures. The model starts with a set of evolution equations for diffusion flux and viscous pressure tensor, based on extended irreversible thermodynamics. It has been demonstrated that the diffusion-stress coupling leads to non-Fickian diffusion effects in the liquid phase. With only diffusive dynamics, the model results in the nonlocal diffusion equations of parabolic type, which imply the transition to complete solute trapping only asymptotically at an infinite interface velocity. With the wavelike dynamics, the model leads to the nonlocal …
Importance Of Plasma Thermal Energy Transfer For Plasma Jet Systems, Vladimir Milosavljevic
Importance Of Plasma Thermal Energy Transfer For Plasma Jet Systems, Vladimir Milosavljevic
Vladimir Milosavljevic
Atmospheric pressure plasma systems are routinely used to treat the surfaces of thermally sensitive materials. There are wide ranges of commercial plasma jet systems available, and for the end user, it can be difficult to directly compare the power outputs of these sources. This paper evaluates the use of a thermal imaging technique in order to provide a semiquantitative evaluation of energy output from plasma jets. The evaluation involved a comparison of the thermal energy transfer obtained from three commercially available atmospheric pressure plasma jet systems: 1) PlasmaTreat’s Openair; 2) Dow Corning’s PlasmaStream; and 3) SurFx’s Atomflo.
