Developing Approaches To Measure The Quality Of Electronic Versus Paper-Based Nursing Documentation In Aged Care Homes, Ping Yu, David Hailey, Ning Wang, Deborah Oxlade

Dr Ping Yu

Objective: This paper is to share the experience of developing approaches in measuring the quality of nursing documentation in residential aged care homes. Background: The quality of care depends on access to quality nursing documentation which ensures continuity and individuality of nursing care. Electronic nursing documentation systems are anticipated to increase caregivers&¿ access to more accurate, adequate and up-to-date data. Evaluation of the quality of nursing documentation calls for quality research and valid instruments with comprehensive and universal criteria. Methods To Evaluate Health Information Systems, Ping Yu, Hui Yu, Jeffrey Soar

Dr Ping Yu

To ensure the introduction of a health information system (HIS) is on track and will bring in the ex-pected outcomes, it is essential to evaluate the critical success factors at every stage of the system introduction life cy-cle. Based on comprehensive literature research and personal experience of evaluating HIS, the author proposes a multi -method approach that incorporates both quantitative and qualitative research, conceptualized through the DeLone and McLean Information Systems Success Model. The advantage of this approach is not only identifying the factors impacting on implementation success, but also distinguishing the critical factors from the less important ones. Thus it …

Challenges To The Adoption Of Mobile And Wireless Technology In Australian Aged Care, Ping Yu, Hui Yu Dec 2012

Challenges To The Adoption Of Mobile And Wireless Technology In Australian Aged Care, Ping Yu, Hui Yu

Dr Ping Yu

The Australian aged-care industry, which is still in the early stages of adopting information technology (IT), is seeking methods for improving efficiency. New mobile and wireless technology may be relevant. As nurses are always moving around beds, wards and community care centres, a mobile solution might suit their documentation needs. To date, however, no convincing mobile and wireless technology has been implemented in health-care. In order to provide IT solutions that satisfy the business needs and work practices of aged-care nurses, a study on the barriers to the adoption of mobile and wireless solutions for aged care has been undertaken. …

An Exploration Of Aged Care Nurse's Readiness And Ability To Use It In Their Work - Outline Of A Proposed Research, Ping Yu, Patrick Crookes, Sunaina Lobo Dec 2012

An Exploration Of Aged Care Nurse's Readiness And Ability To Use It In Their Work - Outline Of A Proposed Research, Ping Yu, Patrick Crookes, Sunaina Lobo

Dr Ping Yu

Dramatic changes in health care have led to a major restructuring of clinical nursing practice. In addition to data processing functions, computers are being used for assisting nurse care delivery such as monitoring patients, scheduling, order entry and result reporting, preventing drug interactions by cross-referencing drug compatibilities and warning appropriate staff of potential risks. This research will mainly focus on investigating the perceptions of use of clinical IT by aged care nurses. Aged care nurses' acceptance and ability to use IT to conduct every day tasks will be investigated.

Design An Automatic Appointment System To Improve Patient Access To Primary Health Care, Hongxiang Hu, Ping Yu, Jun Yan Dec 2012

Design An Automatic Appointment System To Improve Patient Access To Primary Health Care, Hongxiang Hu, Ping Yu, Jun Yan

Dr Ping Yu

Advanced Access model has been introduced in general practice in the United States to improve patient access to primary health care services for more than ten years. It has brought in the benefits of eliminating service provider’s waiting lists, improving patients’ timely access to services and reducing no-show rate. However, to implement this model, practices need to collect relevant information, develop contingency plans and set up practice strategies to balance the provision of care and patient’s demand. These tasks are not always easy to achieve. Understanding the requirements and constraints for effective management of patient booking is essential for developing …

Different Usage Of The Same Oncology Information System In Two Hospitals In Sydney--Lessons Go Beyond The Initial Introduction., Ping Yu, Senthilkumar Gandhidasan, Andrew Miller

Dr Ping Yu

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: The experience of clinicians at two public hospitals in Sydney, Australia, with the introduction and use of an oncology information system (OIS) was examined to extract lessons to guide the introduction of clinical information systems in public hospitals. METHODS AND MATERIALS: Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 12 of 15 radiation oncologists employed at the two hospitals. The personnel involved in the decision making process for the introduction of the system were contacted and their decision making process revisited. The transcribed data were analyzed using NVIVO software. Themes emerged included implementation strategies and practices, the radiation oncologists' current …
