The Projected Impact Of Rising Sea Levels On Real Property Right: An Australian Evaluation, John Sheehan, Lynne Armitage
The Projected Impact Of Rising Sea Levels On Real Property Right: An Australian Evaluation, John Sheehan, Lynne Armitage
Lynne Armitage
The predicted rise in sea level and associated increasing storm action over the next half century is colliding with settled property law for tidal properties much of which is held on the Australian coast in private ownership. Faster change to the climate is reported with more serious risk than anticipated, with implications for sea level rise now expected at the upper end of projections by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) of around 0.8m by 2100 along the Australian coastline.
In response to the threat of sea level rise, the six Australian States have attempted to provide information to …

Jonathan G. Cooper
Climate change, understood as a statistically significant variation in the mean state of the climate or its variability, is the greatest environmental challenge of this generation (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, 2001). Marshfield is already being affected by changes in the climate that will have a profound effect on the town’s economy, public health, coastal resources, natural features, water systems, and public and private infrastructure. Adaptation strategies have been widely recognized as playing an important role in improving a community’s ability to respond to climate stressors by resisting damage and recovering quickly. Based on review of climate projections for the …
