Patient satisfaction, which has become a priority for hospitals and an indicator of quality, is a result of a patient’s perception of care. The consequences of not adequately providing high levels of patient satisfaction can be enormously costly to the greater healthcare system. The literature provided evidence that effective patient satisfaction is multifactorial; one key factor noted was nursing care. This study examined the relationship between patient satisfaction with nursing care and nursing job satisfaction. This study aimed to determine if the implementation of an internet based nurse mentoring group program would aid in the retention of registered nurses in the home health care industry. As the Vice President of Operations for a home health care organization, the researcher both implemented and facilitated an internet based group mentoring program for registered nurses working in home health. The study sample included 47 registered nurses. Forty-two registered nurses were in the control group and five registered nurses were in the experimental group. The link between health care worker fatigue and adverse events is inseparable. Errors made by registered nurses correlated with work duration, overtime and the number of adverse events (Page 2004). To promote patient safety, nurses must remain vigilant. This study determined if work hour guidelines and education regarding safety risks affected nurse work hours, the use of fatigue countermeasures, and patient outcomes. The researcher explored survey data (n=597), actual work hours, patient safety events, and quality outcomes. The purpose of this study was to examine nurse mentoring, succession planning, and perceived professional responsibility as a means of sustaining intellectual capital in a community hospital. Nurses completed the Alleman Mentoring Activities Questionnaire and the Nursing Intellectual Capital Inventory, and they participated in focus groups. This study has created opportunity for dialogue around mentoring and succession planning activities. Findings from this study were restricted to the state of mentoring at the time of the study as perceived by those who returned surveys or participated in focus groups.
