Purpose: To evaluate the effectiveness of platelet rich plasma (PRP) in musculoskeletal injuries.

Methods: We completed a review of the literature on the use of PRP in tendon, muscle, bone, and intra-articular injuries (Chapter 2). We completed a systematic review and meta-analysis on the effectiveness of PRP in ultrasound guided versus palpation guided injections of PRP in non-operative treatment of tendon and muscle injuries using an indirect analysis method (Chapter 3). We conducted a randomized controlled trial to determine the effectiveness of PRP versus corticosteroid (CS) injections in patients with plantar fasciitis (Chapter 4).

Self-efficacy is an important factor for job success, but it has been cited as a missing factor in new athletic training graduates. Therefore, the objective of this study was to find what factors affect the development of self-efficacy in the recently graduated certified athletic trainer. A qualitative survey method was utilized that involved questions aimed to extract as much personal opinion and experiences as possible. Online surveys were sent out electronically to 1,000 prospective participants. A total of 64 survey responses were received but only 52 surveys were qualified for inclusion into the study. Recent legislation in the state of Ohio now allows chiropractic physicians who possess certain credentials to both diagnose and clear young patients who have sustained concussions. Unfortunately, little if any existing research examines the knowledge and abilities of chiropractic physicians regarding the management of this condition. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to provide a general overview of chiropractic physicians’ knowledge regarding the diagnosis and management of pediatric concussions. Elbow lateral collateral ligament (LCL) injuries frequently arise following trauma, and can result in disabling instability. Typically such injuries are managed with immobilization followed by a graduated exercise regime; however there is minimal biomechanical evidence to support current treatment protocols. This investigation examines the in vitro effectiveness of several rehabilitation techniques using a custom elbow motion simulator. It was found that active range of motion is safest in the overhead position (n = 7). Early motion in this position may reduce the incidence of elbow stiffness without compromising ligament healing following LCL injury. Forearm pronation and active motion stabilize …

BACKGROUND: Whiplash-Associated Disorders (WAD) are common following a motor vehicle accident. The Functional Impairment Test - Hand, and Neck/Shoulder/Arm (FIT-HaNSA) assesses upper extremity physical performance. It has been validated in patients with shoulder pathology but not in those with WAD.

OBJECTIVES: Establish the Intra and inter-rater reliability and the known-group and construct validity of the FIT-HaNSA in patients with Grade II WAD (WAD2).

OBJECTIVES: To compare adolescents' physical activity at home, near home, at school, near school, and at other locations.

METHODS: Adolescents (N = 549) were ages 12 to 16 years (49.9% girls, 31.3% nonwhite or Hispanic) from 447 census block groups in 2 US regions. Accelerometers and Global Positioning System devices assessed minutes of and proportion of time spent in moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA) in each of the 5 locations. This systematic review analyzes current data on effects of exercise interventions and physical activity behavior on objective and subjective cancer related cognitive impairments (CRCI). Out of the 19 studies which met all inclusion criteria, five RCTs investigated rodents, whereas the other 14 trials explored humans and these included six RCTs, one controlled trial, two prospective noncontrolled trials, one case series, one observational study, and three cross-sectional studies. The results from animal models revealed positive effects of exercise during and after chemotherapy or radiation on structural alterations of the central nervous system, physiological as well as neuropsychological outcomes.
