Abstract Title: ANTEGRADE ENDOSTEAL FIBULAR STRUT AUGMENTATION FOR PERIPROSTHETIC FEMUR FRACTURE ABOVE STEMMED TOTAL KNEE ARTHROPLASTY Abstract ID: 245 Abstract Category: Clinical Research Introduction:
The management of peri-prosthetics fracture around total knee replacements is technically challenging. The options for operative fixation become more limited if the femoral component is stemmed, which often is the case after revision arthroplasty procedures. The goals of surgery for peri-prosthetic fractures above knee replacements are to provide a rigid construct to promote healing, allow immediate knee range of motion, and allow weight bearing during the healing process.
Purpose:
The purpose of this study is to …

Traumatic Laceration Of The Posterior Tibial Tendon Treated With Novel Technique, Nicholas Miladore, Robert Gorman Jan 2017

Traumatic Laceration Of The Posterior Tibial Tendon Treated With Novel Technique, Nicholas Miladore, Robert Gorman

Research Day

Abstract Title: TRAUMATIC LACERATION OF THE POSTERIOR TIBIAL TENDON TREATED WITH NOVEL TECHNIQUE Abstract ID: 249 Abstract Category: Clinical Research INTRODUCTION: Posterior tibial tendon (PTT) insufficiency is a common entity, and can result in chronic tendon disruption. Acute disruption is a rare occurrence, but has been described in the literature. Most reported cases are associated with ipsilateral ankle fractures. Laceration of the posterior tibial tendon has also been described, typically in the operative setting as a result of iatrogenic injury.
CASE REPORT: A 15 year old male presented to the clinic with complaints of right ankle pain and weakness. 2.5 …

Recurring Ankle Injuries In Dancers, Alexis Jawny Apr 2016

Recurring Ankle Injuries In Dancers, Alexis Jawny

Honors Theses

The purpose of this research, obtained from various Journals of Dance Medicine and Science, is to identify the cause of recurring ankle injuries in the dance community. Ankle injuries are the most common type of injury making up 50% of injuries in dancers. The main cause of recurring ankle injuries is improper diagnosing and then leading to the wrong treatment plan. The research focusses on how to prevent these improper diagnoses and what the dancer and specialty care professional (orthopedics, physical therapists, and rehabilitative medicine) can do to decrease the number of ankle injuries occurring and reoccurring in the dance …

Numerical And Experimental Investigation Of Orthopaedic Fracture Fixation, Bipinchandra Patel Apr 2014

Numerical And Experimental Investigation Of Orthopaedic Fracture Fixation, Bipinchandra Patel

Dissertations

Poor bone fracture fixation leads to malunion, delayed union, non-union, or infection. These malunited fractures affect a bone’s ability to carry loads. Patient outcomes regarding fixation quality can be affected by the healing environment and human factors such as bone quality and surgeons’ perception. Furthermore, the stiffness and strength of the screw-plate construct affect the healing environment. Therefore, this dissertation investigates the stiffness and strength of the non-locking (conventional) and locking (fixed angle) type screw-plate constructs and the factors that contribute to them, such as screw-plate interface, screw design, bone density, cortical bone thickness and load orientation. Additionally, the surgeon’s …
