Background: Most genital fistulas result from prolonged, obstructed labor or surgical complications. Other causes include trauma (from accidents, traditional healers, or sexual violence), radiation, carcinoma, infection, unsafe abortion, and congenital malformation.

Methods: This retrospective records review focuses on rare fistula causes among 6,787 women who developed fistula after 1980 and sought treatment between 1994 and 2017 in Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya, Malawi, Zambia, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Somalia, and South Sudan. We compare fistula etiologies across countries and assess associations between rare causes and type of incontinence (urine, feces, or both).

The objective of this study was to evaluate the potential use of Prostate Imaging – Reporting and Data System version 2 (PI-RADS) in combination with Glutathione S-transferase P1 (GST-P1) expression for an improved diagnosis of prostate cancer, in patients with inconclusive values of prostate-specific antigen (PSA). A large proportion of preterm deliveries is affected by intra-amniotic inflammation, which can occur in the presence (intra-amniotic infection) or absence (sterile intra-amniotic inflammation) of microbes. Unintended pregnancy is a global issue that can result from contraceptive failure or from a lack of contraceptive use. A literature search was conducted to explore novel methods of male contraceptives being developed for improved pregnancy prevention. Seven articles were selected, reporting on either oral contraceptive pills, transdermal gel, injectable hormonal, or bilateral intravas deferens polymer injection. The most common adverse events reported across all studies include changes in libido, mood, weight gain, acne, and headache. Design: Systematic literature review.

Methods: Searches were done in PubMed and Dartmouth library using the terms nestorone, randomized control trial, human, and male. Limits used while searching included published in the last 10 years, randomized control trials, and English.

Results: Using the search criteria the following three studies were found that met the inclusion/exclusion criteria of this study: Ilani et al, Zitzmann et al, and Anawalt et al. All three studies were found on PubMed and reference the Ilani et al study.

Obesity-induced hyperlipidemia is one of the main factors for female infertility. Hyperlipidemia, specifically with high levels of palmitic acid (PA) and oleic acid (OA), interferes with preimplantation development. Autophagy is essential in early embryo development but, it is unknown whether hyperlipidemia affects autophagic mechanisms in preimplantation embryos. It was hypothesized that PA will alter autophagy in preimplantation mouse embryos and that the subsequent effects will be reversed by OA. PA impaired blastocyst development by arresting embryos at the 8-cell stage. The objective was to evaluate the sequentially updated predictive capacity for preeclampsia during pregnancy, using multivariable longitudinal models including data from antenatal care. This population-based cohort study in the Stockholm-Gotland Counties, Sweden, included 58,899 pregnancies of nulliparous women 2008–2013. Prospectively collected data from each antenatal care visit was used, including maternal characteristics, reproductive and medical history, and repeated measurements of blood pressure, weight, symphysis-fundal height, proteinuria, hemoglobin and blood glucose levels. We used a shared-effects joint longitudinal model including all available information up until a given gestational length (week 24, 28, 32, 34 and 36), to update preeclampsia prediction sequentially. …

Overactive bladder (OAB) is common among older adults. The efficacy and safety of vibegron for the treatment of OAB were demonstrated in the international, phase III EMPOWUR trial. This subpopulation analysis from EMPOWUR assessed the efficacy and safety of vibegron in patients aged ≥ 65 and ≥ 75 years.

In EMPOWUR, patients with OAB were randomly assigned 5:5:4 to receive once-daily vibegron 75 mg, placebo, or tolterodine 4 mg extended release, respectively, once daily for 12 weeks.
