Approximately 15 percent of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) present as locally advanced or metastatic, where surgery is not curative. The prognosis of patients with advanced or metastatic CRC can vary from a few months to a few years, depending on the clinical, pathological, and radiological characteristics of the disease. The advent of the use of anti-monoclonal-based immunotherapy as checkpoint inhibitors in initial systemic therapy for advanced clear cell RCC. We will present a clinical case where immunotherapy plays a role through the use of anti-monoclonal drugs to treat a male patient with metastatic kidney disease who presents a clinical response …

Introduction: Solitary fibrous tumors (SFTs) are rare mesenchymal neoplasms that, although typically develop in the visceral pleura, occasionally occur in the intracranial cavity. Furthermore, they are characterized by high rates of metastasis and recurrence. Case Report: We present the case of a 59-year-old male patient with a 3-month history of headache and bradyphrenia. Computed tomography revealed a neoformative tumor infiltrating the nasal cavity, ethmoid sinuses, and anterior cranial fossa, involving the left frontal lobe. The patient underwent two exploratory craniectomies, during which diagnoses suggestive of high-grade glial neoplasia and SFT were made. For precise diagnosis, immunohistochemistry was performed, which was …

Sarcina Ventriculi In The Stomach: An Unexpected And Potentially Dangerous Visitor, Hellen Johanna Gordillo De La Fuente, Eugenio Américo Palomino Portilla, Gabriela Jazmín Palomino Quiñones, María Del Pilar Quiñones Ávila
Revista de la Facultad de Medicina Humana
Introduction: Sarcina ventriculi is a Gram (+), anaerobic, non-motile cocci, with a fermentative carbohydrate metabolism, that survives and grows without problems in environments with acidic pH. It is a known etiological agent in veterinary pathology, however its pathogenic role in humans is controversial. In recent years, the finding of this microorganism in different anatomical places has been reported in humans with increasing frequency, predominantly in the upper digestive tract, mainly in the stomach, in patients with dyspepsia and/or delayed gastric emptying, some of these cases with serious evolution, even fatal. Clinical case: we report the case of a patient with …

First Case Of Thanatophoric Dysplasia Type 1 In The Peruvian Andes With A Pathogenic Variant In The Fgfr3 Gene, Carlos Hugo Torres Salinas, Yesenia Ledesma Porras
Revista de la Facultad de Medicina Humana
Thanatophoric dysplasia type 1 is a form of lethal skeletal dysplasia, characterized by axial-appendicular skeletal disproportions as well as short stature, frontal bossing, cloverleaf skull, narrow chest, femoral bowing, and micromelia. These phenotypic characteristics are the result of pathogenic variants in the fibroblast growth factor receptor 3 (FGFR-3) gene, located on chromosome 4p16.3 For its study, obstetric ultrasound, physical examination and radiographic findings are important. However, the diagnosis must be confirmed by genetic study in order to discover new variants or associations, as well as to reveal its actual casuistry in a certain region.

Infectious sacroiliitis is a rare condition that is sometimes diagnosed late due to the poor specificity of the symptoms. In addition, imaging techniques such as scintigraphy, tomography, and nuclear magnetic resonance are required to assess the extent and severity of the lesions. If early diagnosis and treatment are made, the clinical evolution is satisfactory and leaves no sequelae. Clinical case: the case of an 83-year-old female patient is presented, with a history of ischemic cerebrovascular disease, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes mellitus and urinary tract infection, who presented with moderately intense colic-like abdominal pain, afebrile, and reported that at …

Murine Models For The Study Of Triple Negative Breast Cancer, Yudith Cauna Orocollo, Ariana Alessandra Córdova Salazar, Jhanina Campos Tineo
Revista de la Facultad de Medicina Humana
The study of different variables, such as pathogenesis, inflammatory profile, identification of therapeutic targets, efficacy of treatments in murine models has proven to be one of the most practical for the preclinical study of triple negative breast cancer (TNBC), the most aggressive subtype of cancer, with limited application of treatments and low survival rate. However, it must be recognized that there are other minors in which the induction of TNBC is being standardized. This review encompasses the different induction methods that have allowed the development of TNBC and the most relevant therapeutic applications by which murine models with TNBC were …

Revista de la Facultad de Medicina Humana
Psoriasis is a chronic immune-mediated skin disease with a complex genetic and pathogenic basis, often leading to significant comorbidities and a reduced quality of life. Its prevalence varies globally and exhibits an increasing trend over time. Comorbidities such as psoriatic arthritis, cardiovascular diseases, and mental health issues further compound the burden of psoriasis. Treatment options range from topical therapies to systemic agents, with biologics playing a prominent role in recent years. However, the safety and efficacy of these treatments are continuously assessed through real-world data. Vitamin D has gained attention as a potential therapeutic target due to its role in …

Revista de la Facultad de Medicina Humana
Objective: Identify associated factors with emergence delirium in children in the Post-Anesthetic Recovery Unit of a Pediatric Health Specialized Institute in Peru. Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out in children from 2 to 6 years old, physical status classification I and II, in elective procedures under anesthesia. The main variable was the presence of emergence delirium evaluated with the Pediatric Anesthesia Emergence Delirium scale greater than or equal to 10 points. To identify the factors associated with delirium, the Poisson regression model was applied and a p value < 0.05 was considered significant. Results: Of the 150 children, it was found that the incidence of emergence delirium occurred in 10.6%. Of these, 81.4% were under 5 years of age, pain was significantly associated in 37.5% with PR = 3.63, 95%CI [1.20, 10.1] and it was observed that 68, 8% required palliative care. Conclusion: Pain was associated with delirium of postanesthetic emergence in children. Prevention and treatment of emergence delirium should focus on postoperative pain control and careful monitoring of patients after surgery.

Introduction: Uveitis-glaucoma-hyphema syndrome (UGH) is a rare complication of cataract surgery, due to mechanical chafing exerted by an intraocular lens (IOL) on the iris. Clinical case: We present the case of a 64-year-old man with a history of cataract surgery, who presented decreased visual acuity and pain in the right eye. The ophthalmological examination revealed signs of anterior uveitis, elevated intraocular pressure (IOP), microhyphema, and a single-piece foldable IOL in the sulcus that caused a mechanical chafing with the posterior face of the iris. The medical treatment was insufficient, for this reason a folding simple-piece IOL explant surgery was performed …

Breast cancer remains the most common malignant neoplasm and one of the leading causes of mortality in women, making it a significant target for global health efforts and a public health priority. Through the use of innovative therapies, survival rates have improved, leading to the emergence of associated conditions such as genitourinary menopausal syndrome. Hormonal therapy is employed for managing this condition, significantly alleviating its symptoms and, in some cases, serving as the sole solution. The most commonly utilized approach is vaginal estrogen therapy. Nevertheless, there have been reports of a potential risk of breast cancer recurrence associated with its …
