INTRODUCTION: We previously reported that cholesterol homeostasis in prostate cancer (PC) is regulated by 27-hydroxycholesterol (27HC) and that CYP27A1, the enzyme that converts cholesterol to 27HC, is frequently lost in PCs. We observed that restoring the CYP27A1/27HC axis inhibited PC growth. In this study, we investigated the mechanism of 27HC-mediated anti-PC effects.

PURPOSE: Intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) with brachytherapy boost for unfavorable prostate cancer has been shown to improve biochemical relapse-free survival compared to IMRT alone. Stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) is a less-invasive alternative to brachytherapy. Early outcomes utilizing SBRT boost suggest low rates of high-grade toxicity with a maintained patient-reported quality of life. Background: Studies showed that folate and related single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) could predict prostate cancer (PCa) risk. However, little is known about the interactions of folate-related SNPs associated with PCa aggressiveness. The study’s objective is to evaluate SNP–SNP interactions among the DHFR 19-bp polymorphism and 10 SNPs in folate metabolism and the one-carbon metabolism pathway associated with PCa aggressiveness. Background: The role of ERG-status molecular subtyping in prognosis of prostate cancer (PCa) is still under debate. In this study, we identified differentially expressed genes (DEGs) according to ERG-status to explore their enriched pathways and implications in prognosis in Hispanic/Latino PCa patients. Methods: RNA from 78 Hispanic PCa tissues from radical prostatectomies (RP) were used for RNA-sequencing. ERGhigh/ERGlow tumor groups were determined based on the 1.5-fold change median expression in non-tumor samples. INTRODUCTION: The purpose of this study was to qualitatively investigate and compare male and female experiences of infertility in the context of social support.

METHODS: A Qualtrics survey (Qualtrics, Provo, Utah, United States) was posted to online fertility support groups and the responses were thematically analyzed. Only participants that completed the qualitative component of the survey were included in the study. Responses were subsequently thematically analyzed.

Objectives: To identify non-invasive predictors of response to tamsulosin 0.4 mg in patients with benign prostatic obstruction (BPO).
Methods: Males ≥ 50 years of age with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) suggestive of BPO for over three months were included in the study. We assessed change in the mean International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) and maximum flow rate (Qmax) after six weeks of medical therapy. Clinical and uroflowmetry parameters were compared between two groups of patients with >25% vs. <25% change in the IPSS after treatment. Pre- and post-treatment post-void residue (PVR), Qmax, and IPSS were compared by independent t-test, univariate/multivariate regression analysis.

Background: To date, there are only a few case reports of cyclophosphamide (Cy)-induced hemorrhagic cystitis (HC) in adult or pediatric allogeneic stem cell transplant (SCT) patients treated successfully with hyperbaric oxygen (HBO). In all the reported cases, Cy was used as a part of the conditioning regimen, rather than post-transplant for graft-versus-host-disease (GVHD) prophylaxis. C3 glomerulonephritis (C3GN) is a rare disease that falls under the umbrella of C3 glomerulopathy. It is manifested by abnormal activation of the alternate pathway resulting in complement deposition in the glomeruli. Kidney biopsy with characteristic findings of electron-dense deposits in the mesangial and capillary wall confirms the diagnosis. Until recently, C3GN presenting with primarily lung involvement had not been reported. We present a unique case of initial pulmonary manifestation C3GN.

The development of prostate cancer (PCa) relies strongly on the activation of the androgen receptor (AR) signaling pathway by its natural ligand dihydrotestosterone. Furthermore, PCa progression to metastatic disease represents oncogene addiction to AR activity. Androgen ablation therapy is thus a mainstay therapy against this disease, but the development of ligand-independent AR activation and persisting AR expression eventually leads to castration resistant PCa (CRPC). Therefore, down-regulation of AR expression in PCa cells may be an effective therapeutic modality.
