10-Minute Ebd: Are Neoplasms A Risk Factor For Peri-Implantitis?, Farah Safieddine Bs, Naama Sleiman Ms, Phd, Melanie E. Mayberry Dds, Ms-Hcm

The Journal of the Michigan Dental Association

This 10-Minute EBD column explores the potential association between neoplasms and the risk of peri-implantitis in patients with dental implants. A case study involving a patient with a history of an ossifying fibroma raises questions about the impact of neoplasms on implant success. The literature search, conducted on PubMed, reveals relevant insights. The evidence suggests that ossifying fibromas, particularly with augmentation, may pose a risk for peri-implantitis. However, the direct causative relationship between neoplasms and peri-implant pathology remains unclear. Other risk factors such as periodontitis, foreign bodies, and augmentation procedures are also discussed in the context of implant complications.

Peri-Implantitis Incidence And Effect Of Supportive Periodontal Therapy On Outcomes: Retrospective Cohort Study, Michael Ha Jan 2022

Peri-Implantitis Incidence And Effect Of Supportive Periodontal Therapy On Outcomes: Retrospective Cohort Study, Michael Ha

Theses and Dissertations

Purpose: Management of peri-implantitis is becoming an increasing component of dental practice. Dental implants can develop peri-implantitis lesions which occur in a non‐linear and accelerating pattern compared to a gradual periodontitis lesion. It is crucial to diagnose and treat this disease early, or ideally prevent it. Contemporary implants have a rough surface texture which is difficult to properly decontaminate as a crucial component for treatment prognosis. Evidence on the long-term effects of Periodontal implant maintenance therapy (PIMT) on implants is limited. This study aims to investigate the effect of periodontal maintenance on peri-implant tissue health.

Methods: A retrospective chart review …

Treatment Of Implant Labial Soft Tissue Dehiscence With Guided Bone Regeneration Vs Subepithelial Connective Tissue Graft. A Randomized Clinical Trial, Mahmoud El-Rayes, Waleed F. Esmael, Mohamed Atef, Lobna Abdelaziz Nov 2021

Treatment Of Implant Labial Soft Tissue Dehiscence With Guided Bone Regeneration Vs Subepithelial Connective Tissue Graft. A Randomized Clinical Trial, Mahmoud El-Rayes, Waleed F. Esmael, Mohamed Atef, Lobna Abdelaziz

Future Dental Journal

Background: Implant soft tissue dehiscence is a frequently reported esthetic complication, that more often than not affects the functional integrity of the dental implant with eventual loss of osteointegration. Many treatment modalities with different success rates have been proposed aiming to solve this complication or prolong the survival of the dental implant, of which are guided bone regeneration and soft tissue regeneration around the affected implants.

Material and Methods: This prospective study was carried in the hospital of Future University. 11 Patients (1 Male – 10 Females) with 20 Maxillary implant sites demonstrating soft tissue dehiscence were randomly allocated to …
