Depression Screening Tool For Hysterectomy Patients, Dede C. Mihedji
Depression Screening Tool For Hysterectomy Patients, Dede C. Mihedji
Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Projects
Abstract
Background: The prevalence of hysterectomies in the United States ranges from
5.1 to 5.8 per 1000 women (Harnod et al., 2018). A standardized screening tool for assessing
depression preoperatively could mitigate the worsening of postoperative depressive symptoms in patients scheduled for a hysterectomy.
Local Problem: Currently, there is no standard of practice to routinely screen for depression in preoperative patients scheduled for hysterectomy surgeries. However, as with any surgical intervention, there are risks of long-term complications. Studies have identified that a hysterectomy may increase the risk of cardiovascular events, menopause, depression, and other outcomes (Madueke-Laveaux et al., 2022). …

Improving Health Outcomes Among Patients With Chf Through Implementation Of Telehealth Depression Screening And Chf Symptom Management, Akudo Udodiri Unanwa
Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Projects
Abstract
Background: Comorbid congestive heart failure (CHF) and depressive disorder is a leading cause of mortality globally. Despite effective detection and therapeutic options, 30-day hospital readmission rates for CHF patients remain high, with patients experiencing adverse clinical outcomes and poorer quality of life. Depression is identified as a common comorbidity among CHF patients that may negatively impact patient self-care and adherence to a CHF treatment plan.
Problem: Telehealth applications are an increasingly utilized approach to healthcare delivery that enhances timely access to healthcare services by reducing physical proximity and transportation barriers to care. Currently, telehealth screening for CHF in the …

Massage Therapy For Anxiety And Depression, R. Maryam Lempke
Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Projects
Abstract
Background: Massage therapy is a proven method for reducing symptoms of anxiety and depression as evidenced through literature review. However, the practice of complementary and integrative modalities (CIM), such as massage, is uncommon within psychiatric care. This leaves a gap in practice in the psychiatric setting. Purpose: The capstone quality improvement project addressed the identified gap by providing education on massage therapy to mental health providers and clients, and by increasing massage accessibility and use in the outpatient psychiatric setting by providing education on performing self-massage. Methods: The education was provided via pre-recorded video. Clients/providers completed pre and post-assessments …

Development Of A Pediatric Depression Healthcare Toolkit, Maria Theresa Kennedy
Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Projects
Background: Depression is a debilitating and life-threatening disease that strongly affects youth in the United States. Low socioeconomic populations often have high-risk factors for depression, low health literacy, and poor access to care. Risk factors are amplified for those who identify as gender non-binary or lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or queer (LGBTQ). Psychoeducation can empower youth to be active participants within their treatment.
Purpose: The focus of this project was to evaluate a newly developed healthcare toolkit for pediatric depression in the format of an eBook for mental health professionals.
Methods: An eBook focusing on depression pathology, symptoms and …
Burnout, Depression And Suicide Prevention For Nursing Staff In High-Intensity Settings, April Ritchie
Burnout, Depression And Suicide Prevention For Nursing Staff In High-Intensity Settings, April Ritchie
Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Projects
Nurses working in high-intensity settings experience burnout at higher rates than in other nursing areas. Burnout in healthcare is a problem estimated as high as 70% by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. Burnout can lead to depressive symptoms, which can lead to suicidal ideation in affected healthcare providers, which makes early identification and treatment of utmost importance to the mental and physical wellbeing of these nurses.
The purpose of this project is to examine burnout in nursing staff working in high-intensity areas of the hospital in order to help identify burnout and/or depressive symptoms before they lead to …

Improving Mental Healthcare For Older Adults: Community Based Screening For Social And Emotional Loneliness And Major Depressive Disorder, Eunice Kowalczyk
Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Projects
Abstract
Purpose: Major depressive disorder (MDD) is a devastating mental health disorder affecting older adults that is often misdiagnosed or untreated due to a lack of screening and the stigma that MDD symptoms are a normal and expected part of aging. The goal of this quality improvement (QI) project was to implement a community-based screening intervention to identify community-dwelling older adults at risk for or suffering from MDD, and facilitate further evaluation and care.
Methods: Participants were community dwelling older adults, age 56 and older, in Massachusetts. Two screening tools were administered in two sites that screened for social and …
