Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences
Background/aim: Immunoglobulin A vasculitis (IgAV) is one of the most common types of vasculitis in children. The aims of this study were to investigate the clinical characteristics of the disease, and the effects of age and sex on the clinical course in children with IgAV. Materials and methods: This was a retrospective study including pediatric patients diagnosed with IgAV who attended follow-ups at the pediatric rheumatology department of a tertiary healthcare institution between January 1997 and December 2020. The patients were grouped and compared according to sex and age at diagnosis (<7 years vs. ?7 years). Results: The study included 709 children with IgAV, 392 (55.3%) of whom were male. The mean age at diagnosis was 7.9 ± 3.2 years. The most common disease onset season was autumn (31.2%). Upper respiratory infections (27.8%) were the most common predisposing factors. Gastrointestinal system (GIS), joint, and renal involvement were observed in 52.8%, 47.5%, and 17.5% of patients, respectively. Renal involvement, GIS involvement, and disease relapse were significantly more common among those diagnosed after 7 years of age compared to those diagnosed before the age of 7 (p < 0.001, p = 0.033, and p < 0.001, respectively). Scrotal involvement and subcutaneous edema were more common among those diagnosed at younger than 7 years compared to those aged ?7 years at diagnosis (p < 0.001 and p = 0.016, respectively). GIS involvement was more frequently seen in males compared to females (p = 0.046). Conclusion: It was demonstrated that being ?7 years of age at diagnosis or being a male were associated with higher likelihood of renal and GIS involvement in children with IgAV.

Pharmacology Training Of Counselors, Jessica Fanguy Cortez, Chris Rachal
Louisiana Journal of Counseling
As the use of psychotropic medications to treat mental illness increases across the lifespan, the need for psychopharmacology training for counselors intensifies. Research by Sepulveda (2011) concluded that counselor educators are not overwhelmingly supportive of including a psychopharmacology course in CACREP–approved school counselor curricula. Expanding on Sepulveda’s (2011) work, our findings indicate that most CACREP-approved counseling programs do not offer psychological or psychopharmacology courses. Most program directors favor such courses in their programs, and agree that licensed counselors are routinely confronted with medication issues in professional settings. But despite the fact that most programs lack training in psychopharmacology, directors believe …

‘Safe Couch, Safe House’ Program (Scshp): Reducing Exposure To Toxic Flame Retardants For Children In A Low-Income Public Housing At Hunters View, Bayview-Hunters Point, San Francisco., Aliza Khan
Master's Projects and Capstones
Since the 1970s, flame retardants have been used extensively in consumer goods, including furniture, textile, and electronics, to meet California’s flammability standards. (Gibson et al.,2019) Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers (PBDEs), once the most widely used flame retardants being used in consumer products, were phased out from use in manufacturing as evidence emerged about PBDEs persistence and toxicity. (Hoffman et al.,2017) PBDEs were replaced by Organophosphate Flame Retardants (OPFRs), which has proven to be a case of ‘regrettable substitution’ as exposure to OPFRs is ubiquitous and pervasive in humans due to their volatility and propensity to leach from products into the environment. …

Graduate Student Dissertations, Theses, Capstones, and Portfolios
Diabetes mellitus, simply known as diabetes, is a metabolic disorder that impacts how the body makes use of glucose or blood sugar. Glucose is the primary supply of energy for the body’s cells, which is controlled by insulin, a pancreatic hormone. Diabetes results in high blood glucose levels (hyperglycemia), which are caused by either insufficient insulin production by the pancreas or ineffective insulin utilization by the body (Dean & McEntyre, 2004). Although there are several types of diabetes, the two main types are type 1 and type 2. Type 1, also known as juvenile diabetes, is an inflammatory condition in …
