This study evaluated the validity of the Previous Day Physical Activity Recall (PDPAR) self-report instrument in quantifying after-school physical activity behavior in fifth-grade children. Thirty-eight fifth-grade students (mean age, 10.8 ± 0.1; 52.6%; female; 26.3% African American) from two urban elementary schools completed the PDPAR after wearing a CSA WAM 7164 accelerometer for a day. The mean within-subject correlation between self-reported MET level and total counts for each 30-min block was 0.57 (95% C.I., 0.51-0.62). Objective:

To determine the prevalence of Hodgkin’s disease (HD) and its various subtypes in children and adults and assess the use of immunohistochemical (IHC) studies in confirming HD cases and excluding its close mimicries/look-alikes.

Material and Methods:

All 265 Hodgkin’s disease cases diagnosed at The Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi over the last 6 years (July 1991 - July 1997) were included. Of these 219 were diagnosed on routine H&E examination while in the remaining 46 cases, diagnosis was made after a thorough IHC workup. Little empirical knowledge exists regarding children's perceptions of health. The purpose of this quantitative descriptive study was to determine the health perceptions of children with a convenience sample of fourth-grade students at a small elementary school in Northeast Mississippi. The theoretical framework utilized was Bandura's Social Learning Theory. The directional hypothesis in the proposed study was school-age children have a positive perception of health. The Children's Health Rating Scale was utilized as a measurement tool that ranked 17 health-related questions on a scale of 1 to 5 (1 = most negative, 5 = most positive). The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of a six-session group counseling intervention for children who had a parent experiencing military-induced deployment. Participants were 65 children (30 boys, 35 girls) of enlisted military personnel attending elementary schools near the Norfolk Naval Base. Elementary school counselors facilitated the counseling groups.

In this study, we evaluated 39 patients, who had been followed up in various centers, in order to determine the psychosocial effects of IDDM on children and young patients. The mean age of the patients was 15.58±2.29 years and the mean duration of diabetes was 4.41±3 years. We measured the depression and self-esteem scores in all patients using a standardized questionnaire for Turkish children. Depression was found in four patients (10.3%), and the self-esteem scores of all patients were within the normal range. This study was carried out on a representative sample consisting of 429 households in Gaziantep. The prevalance of diseases with diarrhoea was found to be 22.9% among children under five years old in the two weeks preceding the survey. It was observed that 51.3% of children with diarrhoea were taken to a medical facility, the mean duration of the diarrhoea was 4.5±3.8 days, and the rate of children with diarrhoea during the preceding 24 hours was 11.8%.
