Behçet's Disease-A Literature Review(โรคบีเชตส์), Poramate Pitak-Arnnop
Chulalongkorn University Dental Journal
Behçet's disease is a multisystemic inflammatory disease with histological evidence for vasculitis and characterized by mucocutaneous, ocular, articular, vascular, intestinal, pulmonary, renal and neurologic involvement. According to the diagnostic criteria formed by the International Study Group, recurrent oral ulceration is a prerequisite, with two more typical symptoms or signs. It is a disease of young adults with a more severe course in male subjects. Its prevalence is high in the Mediterranean basin, Turkey, Japan and those ethnic groups along the old Silk Route and has been known to be associated with HLA-B5 and HLA-B11. Although the pathogenesis of the disease …

Polynucleotides Related To Monoclonal Antibody 1a7 And Use For The Treatment Of Melanoma And Small Cell Carcinoma, Malaya Chatterjee, Kenneth A. Foon, Sunil K. Chatterjee
Microbiology, Immunology and Molecular Genetics Faculty Patents
The present invention relates to monoclonal antibody 1A7. This is an anti-idiotype produced by immunizing with an antibody specific for ganglioside GD2, and identifying a hybridoma secreting antibody with immunogenic potential in a multi-step screening process. Also disclosed are polynucleotide and polypeptide derivatives based on 1A7, including single chain variable region molecules and fusion proteins, and various pharmaceutical compositions. When administered to an individual, the 1A7 antibody overcomes immune tolerance and induces an immune response against GD2, which comprises a combination of anti-GD2 antibody and GD2-specific T cells. The invention further provides methods for treating a disease associated with altered …
Identification Of Needs In Treatment Of Breast Cancer, Luann Massey
Identification Of Needs In Treatment Of Breast Cancer, Luann Massey
MSN Research Projects
Breast cancer has been documented as the second leading cause of death in American women. Many needs are realized during the phases of treatment for breast cancer: at the time of diagnosis, during treatment, and after treatment. The purpose of this descriptive exploratory study was to identify the needs of women with breast cancer during phases of treatment. With the Neuman Systems Model as a theoretical framework, the research question was as follows : What are the needs of women with breast cancer during the phases of treatment? Data were obtained using the Massey Subject Profile and the Massey Questionnaire. …

Veterinary Science Faculty Patents
The present invention provides formulations useful to treat EPM. It also provides methods to treat EPM in a horse in need of such treatment, comprising administering a pharmaceutically effective amount of a triazine-based anti-coccidial. Preferred are methods to treat EPM using clazuril, diclazuril, toltrazuril or letrazuril. The present invention also provides methods to prevent S. neurona infection in horses comprising administering a prophylactic amount of a triazine-based anticoccidial. Preferred is a method to prevent S. neurona infection by using clazuril, diclazuril, toltrazuril or letrazuril, alone or in combination with other known therapeutics.
Social Work Assessment Of Adaptive Functioning Using The Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales: Issues Of Reliability And Validity, Peter Cabrera, Lucienne Grimes-Gaa, Bruce A. Thyer
Social Work Assessment Of Adaptive Functioning Using The Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales: Issues Of Reliability And Validity, Peter Cabrera, Lucienne Grimes-Gaa, Bruce A. Thyer
Elián P. Cabrera-Nguyen
The assessment of client adaptive functioning is often an important component of a comprehensive social work evaluation. The Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales (VABS) are the most commonly used quantitative measures of adaptive functioning for clients meeting the criteria for a wide range of disorders. We review the development of the VABS and current knowledge pertaining to the instrument's reliability and validity. We conclude that the ability to administer and interpret the VABS is an important skill for clinical social workers to acquire.

Effects Of Megestrol Acetate Treatment On Dogs With Prolonged Estrus, Ayhan Baştan, Seli̇m Aslan
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
A total of 22 dogs of different breeds with persistent estrus, between the ages of 1.5 and 6, were used. Diagnoses were made by anamnesis, general examination and vaginal smear. Vulvar edema, colour and volume of vaginal discharge, convolution of the mucosa and volume of secretion were recorded before and after treatment. Dogs were treated with 25 mg megestrol acetate (Niagestine, 25 mg/ml, Novo). Clinical manifestations disappeared within 3-7 days. Vaginal discharge ceased in 3.5±2.5 days and vulvar edema ceased in 3.5±1.6 days. In only one dog, the treatment was not effective after 15 days. The vulva was still swollen …
Cystic Fibrosis: Biological And Ethical Considerations, Sarah Elizabeth Milam
Cystic Fibrosis: Biological And Ethical Considerations, Sarah Elizabeth Milam
Honors Theses
Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a progressive, multisystem disease whose etiology is a genetic mutation in the CF gene product, cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR). The disorder affects all exocrine glands, with common symptoms involving the lungs and pancreas. Although the CF gene and its protein product have been identified, two aspects of the disease make CF particularly difficult to diagnose and manage: (a) variability in both degree and pattern of the mutation in different individuals and (b) lack of information regarding the precise molecular and cellular mechanisms responsible. Let us begin by examining the pathogenesis and pathophysiology of the …
