Purpose: To evaluate patient-reported outcomes (PROs) for bladder cancer patients undergoing neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) prior to radical cystectomy (RC) using longitudinal data and propensity-matched scoring analyses. Methods: 155 patients with muscle-invasive bladder cancer scheduled for RC completed the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer questionnaires, EORTC QLQ-C30, EORTC QLQ-BLM30, Fear of Recurrence Scale, Mental Health Inventory and Satisfaction with Life Scale within 4 weeks of surgery. © 2017 Sarcomatoid renal cell carcinoma (sRCC) is an aggressive variant of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) that has a significantly lower overall survival. Even after prompt surgical extirpation, this histologic variant progresses rapidly. We present a case of an early recurrence and rapid progression of sRCC despite successful radical resection.

Objective: To expand the diagnostic armamentarium for medullary sponge kidney (MSK), we evaluate the use of high-resolution multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) for MSK diagnosis and compare to the standard intravenous urography (IVU). Despite a significant prevalence amongst stone formers, diagnosis of this well described condition has declined. IVU, the gold standard in MSK diagnosis, has largely been replaced by CT, which has previously been shown unable to demonstrate signs of MSK. An isothiourea-catalysed Michael addition-annulation process using β-fluoroalkyl-substituted α,β-unsaturated aryl esters and a range of 2-acylbenzazoles is reported for the enantioselective synthesis of dihydropyranone and dihydropyridinone products bearing polyfluorinated stereocenters (29 examples, up to 98% yield, >99:1 er). The choice of aryl group of the aryl ester proved essential in determining reaction enantioselectivity and dihydropyranone:dihydropyridinone product selectivity. The aryloxide leaving group is shown to play a number of essential additional roles, operating (i) as a Brønsted base, circumventing the need for an auxiliary base; and (ii) as a Lewis base to catalyse the isomerisation …

INTRODUCTION: Multiple scoring systems have been proposed for prostate MRI reporting. We sought to review the clinical impact of the new Prostate Imaging Reporting and Data System v2 (PI-RADS) and compare those results to our proposed Simplified Qualitative System (SQS) score with respect to detection of prostate cancers and clinically significant prostate cancers. METHODS: All patients who underwent multiparametric prostate MRI (mpMRI) had their images interpreted using PI-RADS v1 and SQS score. AbstractObjective Five to ten percent of interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS) patients have Hunner's lesions (HL), areas of non-specific inflammation and scarring. The poor quality of life of patients with HL is entwined in associated pain and loss of bladder capacity. Although the decrease in bladder capacity is usually dependent on pain, it may also be dependent upon scarring and associated compliance changes produced by the inflammatory process. Our objective was to assess the quality of PRO reporting and methodological strengths and weaknesses in randomized controlled trials (RCT) in bladder cancer.; METHODS: A systematic literature search of bladder cancer RCT published between January 2004 and March 2014 was performed. BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to assess the acute ablative characteristics of transurethral convective water vapor (steam) using the Rezum((R)) system in men with benign prostatic hyperplasia through histologic and radiographic studies. METHODS: Seven patients were treated with transurethral intraprostatic injections of sterile steam under endoscopic visualization followed by previously scheduled adenectomies. The extirpated adenomas were grossly examined followed by whole mount sectioning and staining with triphenyl-tetrazolium chloride (TTC) to evaluate thermal ablation. PURPOSE: Antitumor activity of cancer immunotherapies may elicit immune responses to nontargeted (secondary) tumor antigens, or antigen spread. We evaluated humoral antigen spread after treatment with sipuleucel-T, an immunotherapy for asymptomatic or minimally symptomatic metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC), designed to target prostatic acid phosphatase (PAP; primary antigen). EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN: Serum samples from patients with mCRPC enrolled in the placebo-controlled phase III IMPACT study (evaluable n = 142) were used to assess humoral antigen spread after treatment with sipuleucel-T. BACKGROUND: Women with stress urinary incontinence and concomitant obstructive (voiding) lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) represent a challenging patient population. Furthermore, their diagnosis and management remain incompletely studied and controversial. We evaluated the outcomes of midurethral sling procedures in women with severe obstructive LUTS. METHODS: We performed a post hoc analysis of women who were part of an institutional review board-approved study of midurethral sling surgery. Purpose: We analyzed the 23-year Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center experience with surgical resection, and concurrent adrenalectomy and lymphadenectomy for locally advanced nonmetastatic renal cell carcinoma. Materials and Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the records of 802 patients who underwent nephrectomy with or without concurrent adrenalectomy or lymphadenectomy for locally advanced renal cell carcinoma, defined as stage T3 or greater and M0. Background: Open radical cystectomy (ORC) and urinary diversion in patients with bladder cancer (BCa) are associated with significant perioperative complication risk. Objective: To compare perioperative complications between robot-assisted radical cystectomy (RARC) and ORC techniques. Background. Prostate cancer survivors with a rising prostate-specific antigen (PSA) level have few treatment options, experience a heightened state of uncertainty about their disease trajectory that might include the possibility of cancer metastasis and death, and often experience elevated levels of distress as they have to deal with a disease they thought they had conquered. This formative research study describes the development and preliminary evaluation of a theory-guided, online multimedia psycho-educational program (PROGRESS) designed to facilitate adaptive coping among prostate cancer patients transitioning from treatment into long-term survivorship. OBJECTIVES: To review the responses of advance directives signed by Jehovah's Witness patients prior to undergoing surgery at a gynecologic oncology service. STUDY DESIGN: A retrospective chart review of gynecologic oncology patients undergoing surgery at a bloodless surgery center from 1998-2007 was conducted. Demographic, pathologic, and clinical data were recorded. The proportion of patients who accepted and refused various blood-derived products was determined and was compared to previously published results from a similar study of labor and delivery unit patients. Cystinuria is a genetic cause of recurrent kidney stones which may be more recurrent and larger than more common non-cystine stones. They may have a greater impact on health-related quality of life (HRQoL). We measured this impact by surveying HRQoL in patients with stones, comparing non-cystine stone formers (NCSF) to cystine stone formers (CYSF) and both groups to normative values of the US population. BACKGROUND: To evaluate the factors associated with positive bone scans after biochemical recurrence (BCR) following radical prostatectomy in both hormone-naive subjects and subjects after androgen-deprivation therapy (ADT). METHODS: Retrospective analysis of 380 bone scans of 301 hormone-naive subjects and 214 bone scans of 137 subjects after ADT following BCR from the Shared Equal Access Regional Cancer Hospital database. Generalized estimating equations and local regression plots were used to evaluate bone scan positivity by patients' demographics, pathological features, PSA levels and kinetics. Inflatable penile prosthesis (IPP) remains the gold standard for the surgical treatment of refractory erectile dysfunction; however, current literature to aid surgeons on how best to counsel patients on their postoperative inflated penile length is lacking. The aim of this study was to identify preoperative parameters that could better predict postoperative penile length following insertion of an IPP. We conducted a retrospective chart review of robotic prostatectomies done by a single surgeon between 2003 and 2012. During that time period, we identified two patients within the year 2012, with ileal pouch-anal anastomosis (IPPA) who also underwent robotic prostatectomies. The demographics and postoperative characteristics of the two patients were assessed. In both patients, prostatectomy, bilateral nerve sparing, and pelvic lymphadenectomy were successfully performed and the integrity of ileal pouch was maintained. Two variants of renal angiomyolipoma (AML)—classic and epithelioid—have been described. Although the epithelioid variant has been reported to demonstrate an aggressive clinical behavior, classic AML is usually benign. Herein, we report a case of a 42-year-old asymptomatic woman with a lipomatous variant of renal AML associated with an inferior vena cava thrombus managed with radical nephrectomy and caval thrombectomy.

Calyceal diverticula are rare outpouchings of the upper collecting system that likely have a congenital origin. Stones can be found in up to 50% of calyceal diverticula, although, over the combined reported series, 96% of patients presented with stones. Diagnosis is best made by intravenous urography or computed tomography urogram. Shock wave lithotripsy (SWL) is an option for first-line therapy in patients with stone-bearing diverticula that have radiologically patent necks in mid- to upper-pole diverticula and small stone burdens. Stone-free rates are the lowest with SWL, although patients report being asymptomatic following therapy in up to 75% of cases with …
