Although very little is currently published regarding the use of synergists with HBOT it is an area of great clinical curiosity. For example some animal data using oxidative IV therapies in conjunction with HBOT which showed benefit have had to be modified when transferred to human protocols. Other therapies which have shown theoretical promise have exhibited synergy with HBOT and are emerging as future directions to clinically augment the benefits of HBOT.

When assessing the potential benefits of HBOT in oncology patients occasional confusion arises when extrapolating the cytokine, epigenetic and other effects of HBOT in non-cancerous tissues (neurological and other injuries etc.) versus those in cancerous tissues. This confusion often results in misinterpretation of data and concern over potential harm in HBOT oncology cases. The focus of this presentation is to point out the data supporting these differences as we know it to date and underscore the benefits while decreasing this clinical confusion.
