The socially inflicted trauma of racism in medicine crafts interpretations of racial differences as a proclamation of racial deficiency. After the buildings are renamed, the flags come down, and blackface costumes are tucked away, we still go back to comfortable enclaves that do not promote conversation or understanding. Socially sanitizing environments does no good without transformative interventions."
