An Exploration Of The Perceived Usefulness Of The Introductory Statistics Course And Students’ Intentions To Further Engage In Statistics, Rossi A. Hassad
An Exploration Of The Perceived Usefulness Of The Introductory Statistics Course And Students’ Intentions To Further Engage In Statistics, Rossi A. Hassad
Numeracy
Students’ attitude, including perceived usefulness, is generally associated with academic success. The related research in statistics education has focused almost exclusively on the role of attitude in explaining and predicting academic learning outcomes, hence there is a paucity of research evidence on how attitude (particularly perceived usefulness) impacts students’ intentions to use and stay engaged in statistics beyond the introductory course. This study explored the relationship between college students’ perception of the usefulness of an introductory statistics course, their beliefs about where statistics will be most useful, and their intentions to take another statistics course. A cross-sectional study of 106 …
Social Media And Negative Aspects Of Well-Being: Does Fomo Play A Role?, Casey J. Mcandrew
Social Media And Negative Aspects Of Well-Being: Does Fomo Play A Role?, Casey J. Mcandrew
Bridges: A Journal of Student Research
Fear of missing out (FOMO) is a relatively new concept, however researchers have found that FOMO and social media use cause negative aspects of well-being, such as depression, anxiety, stress (Alabi, 2013; Alavi, 2011) and lack of academic motivation (Jacobsen and Forste, 2011). When using a correlational design, the current study examined the associations between social media engagement and negative aspects of well-being, while also examining the mediating role of FOMO between these variables. Participants (198 college students, M = 19 years old, 86 percent female, 74 percent Caucasian) completed online surveys, where participants reported on their levels of social …
Human Error Analysis Of Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (Hems) Accidents Using The Human Factors Analysis And Classification System (Hfacs), Paul E. Cline Ph.D.
Human Error Analysis Of Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (Hems) Accidents Using The Human Factors Analysis And Classification System (Hfacs), Paul E. Cline Ph.D.
Journal of Aviation/Aerospace Education & Research
Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS) is among the most dangerous type of flying in commercial aviation. This research utilized the Human Factors Analysis and Classification System (HFACS) to understand the errors, preconditions and violations that contribute to these accidents. Drawing upon source data from the National Transportation Safety Board’s Aviation Accident Database, HEMS accidents from 2000-2016 were analyzed according to the HFACS framework.
Multigenerational Modeling Of Money Management, Christina M. Rosa, Loren D. Marks, Ashley B. Lebaron, E.Jeffrey Hill
Multigenerational Modeling Of Money Management, Christina M. Rosa, Loren D. Marks, Ashley B. Lebaron, E.Jeffrey Hill
Journal of Financial Therapy
This study is about implicit financial socialization within families. It specifically examines how parental modeling facilitates the intergenerational transmission of healthy financial behaviors. This qualitative, multi-generational, multi-site study begins to answer the following research question: What financial behaviors are parents modeling for their children? The sample for this study (N=115) included 90 undergraduate students (ages 18-30) enrolled in family finance classes at three U.S. universities, 18 of their parents, and 7 of their grandparents. Using a team-based approach to qualitative data collection, analysis, and coding, four consensus themes related to parental financial modeling were distilled: (1) Working for …
Sourcing Enchantment: From Elemental Appropriation To Imaginal Symbolics, Schwartz, Michael
Sourcing Enchantment: From Elemental Appropriation To Imaginal Symbolics, Schwartz, Michael
CONSCIOUSNESS: Ideas and Research for the Twenty-First Century
Critical theorists and social commentators agree that modernity and postmodernity suffer from historical pathologies of world disenchantment. What might be done? Drawing on John Sallis’ phenomenology of the elemental and Tibetan Buddhist teachings on elemental practices, this paper investigates the imagination in its doubling as imaginal in generating a symbolics of the self, world, and other that is always already enchanted; an aesthetics of existence where the world itself shows forth like a work of art replete with exorbitant logics.
Tasseography From Jung's Perspective, Avetisian, Elizabeth
Tasseography From Jung's Perspective, Avetisian, Elizabeth
CONSCIOUSNESS: Ideas and Research for the Twenty-First Century
Approaching from Jung’s perspective this paper aims to understand how the unconscious communicates through symbolism that may be the basis for synchronicity arising from mantic procedures. A particular ritual of divination called tasseography will be studied whereby the seer interprets patterns in coffee grounds intuitively and by following a standard system of symbolism to foretell the seeker’s future life events or provide answers to seeker’s pressing life questions. The paper will examine various processes involved in the experience of tasseography and its ritual that enable the reader to predict the seeker’s future or bring light to the present or past …
The Imprint Of Childhood Abuse On Trauma-Related Shame In Adulthood, Joan A. Reid
The Imprint Of Childhood Abuse On Trauma-Related Shame In Adulthood, Joan A. Reid
Dignity: A Journal of Analysis of Exploitation and Violence
Research has consistently linked residual trauma-related shame among child sexual abuse (CSA) survivors to sexual revictimization, health risk behaviors, and poorer response to mental health treatment. However, questions remain regarding the imprint of childhood maltreatment on trauma-related shame including which CSA characteristics or types of childhood maltreatment contribute to residual shame in adulthood. Using data drawn from a prospective study of 174 primarily African American women with histories of CSA and a matched comparison group, this study explores whether specific characteristics of CSA (familial CSA, CSA with penetration, force used by CSA perpetrator), repeat sexual victimization in adolescence, childhood physical …
