In the United States and throughout the world there is a serious concern in the growing nursing shortage. Many recruitment and retention techniques are currently being used to ease the nursing shortage. One such avenue is a nurse re-entry program. The primary purpose of this study was to determine the interest for a RN re-entry program in southeastern Ohio.

The data collected during the investigation used both qualitative and quantitative research techniques. Information was received through two survey questionnaires and two focus groups. The instruments were designed with the purpose of determining how many registered nurses were not working in …

Fracturing a hip is a devastating experience for the older adult, and mortality and morbidity following a hip fracture are high among this vulnerable population. Mortality rates from 12 to 37 percent have been reported within one year after a hip fracture. It is estimated that 50 percent of individuals who experience hip fractures become partially dependent in activities of daily living, and 33 percent become totally dependent in activities of daily living. Reducing morbidity by improving rehabilitation outcomes is an important healthcare goal for older adults. Measurement of intuition use among nursing students has not occurred because developed intuition measures have been designed specifically for experienced nurses. The purpose of this study was to develop and psychometrically evaluate an intuition instrument for nursing students. An intuition instrument can provide the means to (a) determine if students use intuition in care providing activities and (b) measure intuition use over time. Instrument development included (a) concept clarification, (b) item development, and (c) psychometric testing. Although there are three domains of learning in nursing (cognitive, affective, and psychomotor) the only domain tested for licensure is the cognitive. During the past eight years, there has been an increase in the migratory patterns offtamilies from Mexico to a rural community in Minnesota, served by Maternal Child public health nurses. Many of these families are undocumented or are of Mixed Citizenship status, citizens and undocumented residing together, and live in poverty. This ethnographic study examines the migratory experiences of these immigrants and the interconnection to the socioeconomic and cultural influences of community.

The primary tools of poetry, cultural stories, and photography, are incorporated in this field project. Understanding the cultural and socioeconomic context of migration for Mexican immigrants may strengthen …

Many nursing program require a review and retest of skilled procedures before graduation. In this way the nursing school takes steps to ensure a competent graduate practitioner. At Cleveland State University this testing is known as Senior Proficiencies, and is done in the spring semester of senior year. In the past, this has been a time-consuming task for nursing resource laboratory personnel and a stressful event for students. In their course evaluations many students expressed concern and dissatisfaction regarding their infrequently used skills and the stress associated with the retesting. Topic: The concept of comfort, although used frequently and throughout the nursing literature, has not been clearly or consistently defined. Purpose: To clarify the meaning of comfort by employing the systematic approach of an evolutionary concept-analysis method. Sources: Books, journals, professional organization position statements, electronic searches. Conclusions: A clear definition and meaning of comfort is needed, and thus the ability to use this concept empirically in order to further nursing knowledge development.

The (PD) peak day of cervical mucus is an important biologic marker for the self-determination of the optimal time of fertility in a woman’s menstrual cycle. Although the health and healing effects of writing have been documented in the literature, most of the studies have focused primarily on individuals writing alone. This formative evaluation is a component of an intervention reported elsewhere. The evaluation describes the experience of low-income youth and college students ( n = 7) writing in a group during a 10-week workshop. The results revealed the development of protective processes of self-esteem, self-efficacy, coping strategies, social support, and cultural connections. This study examined whether students’ attitudes about community health practice, attitudes toward people who are indigent and homeless, and perceived leadership skills changed after participation in a planned interdisciplinary community health experience with an urban homeless or formerly homeless population. Data were collected from medicine, nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and social work students who participated in the community health experiences and from students in these disciplines who did not participate in this curriculum. The Relationship Between Perceived Self-Efficacy, Regimen Adherence, And Glycemic Control In Adolescents With Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus: A Pilot Study, Antonieta Pelias Alteza

This pilot study examined the relationship between perceived self-efficacy and regimen adherence on glycemic control among adolescents, aged 11 to 18 years, with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus. Thirty-six adolescent-parent dyads participated in this study. Bivariate analysis using Pearson product moment-correlations identified no significant relationships among the variables. Regarding treatment regimen, adolescents on insulin pumps had a mean glycosylated hemoglobin level of 8.09% whereas adolescents on daily insulin injections had a mean glycosylated hemoglobin level of 9.26%. Bandura's theory of self-efficacy provided the theoretical framework for this study. The Self-Efficacy for Diabetes scale and Questionnaire of Self-Care Behaviors scale were used …
