Reaching Out To Occupational Therapists, Alan Fyall Jun 2022

Reaching Out To Occupational Therapists, Alan Fyall

Rosen Research Review

Accessible tourism is a growing area of tourism research. The belief that all tourism facilities, products, and services should be accessible to those with disabilities drives research in tourism ethics and sustainability. However, a key voice is being ignored. Occupational therapists play a critical role in enabling people with disabilities to participate in the activities of daily life, including leisure. Dr. Alan Fyall believes it is time for interdisciplinary research with occupational therapists to properly understand accessible tourism.

People Perspectives In The Deployment Of Data Analytics For New Knowledge Generation In Pharmaceutical Manufacturing, Marcus O'Mahony Dr.

Level 3

Digital medicine manufacturing of the future will almost certainly involve greater use of advanced analytics tools for more data-driven decision-making. In this article, the role of people in the deployment of data analytics tools within the pharmaceutical manufacturing setting is explored. Some perspectives are presented for how people can make sense of working cross-functionally on the analytics journey to deliver new knowledge and insights that enable data-driven decisions to be made. Data analytics is defined and is proposed as a critical common ground between the “on-the-ground” data practitioners and the decision-makers who act on new knowledge. Reference is made to ...

The Operation Successful, But The Patient Died. The Gradual Elimination Of The Central European Peasantry In The Light Of Globalization And Interwar Processes, Janos Fritz May 2022

The Operation Successful, But The Patient Died. The Gradual Elimination Of The Central European Peasantry In The Light Of Globalization And Interwar Processes, Janos Fritz

Journal of Global Awareness

In terms of “depeasantisation," it was with the EU accession in 2004 when Central Europe – including Hungary – reached the stage where England had already arrived in the 18th and Germany in the 19th century. The gradual disappearance of the peasantry in the continent is doubtless in connection with the tendencies of globalization, a phenomenon that could not be stopped even by the authoritarian regimes of the interwar period – the time period examined by the dissertation. However, in a latent way, the question had already arisen at the time: is peasantry necessary at all? Nevertheless, as a consequence of the defeat ...

Raytheon Technologies Corporation: An Analysis Of Leadership, Ethics, And Social Responsibility, Jarett Monterio

Journal of Global Awareness

The purpose of this analysis is to examine Raytheon Technologies Corporation (RTC) in the context of its leadership structure, ethical issues and practices, stakeholder relationships, and position within the social responsibility realm. Undertaking an analysis of an aerospace and defense company such as RTC is perhaps timelier than ever. We live in a world of increasing global competition and confrontation. Simultaneously, we are experiencing unprecedented technological development. Combined, this has created a situation where the boundaries of conventional warfare have been redrawn. The questions of what appropriate offensive and defensive tactics are and how governments, and increasingly private sector companies ...

Mentoring Students Of Disadvantaged Background In Hungary — “Let’S Teach For Hungary!” As An Equitable Intervention In The Public School System, Gergely Horváth

Journal of Global Awareness

The introductory study aims to give an insight into the Hungarian educational system and a mentor program aiming to facilitate development in social mobility in the country. In the Hungarian context of education, the concept of equality and equity is a current phenomenon that influences students of underprivileged families. In Hungary, among students living in the countryside, the intersectionality of disadvantages is observed. Several regions of the country have features of unemployment and low education. Thus, students from underprivileged families face a deficit of capital when entering and proceeding into the educational system. The situation is further complicated for the ...

Contextualizing The Impact Of Faculty-Led Short-Term Study Abroad On Students’ Global Competence: Characteristics Of Effective Programs, Colleen Fisher, Laurel Iverson Hitchcock, Ashley Neyer, Stacy C. Moak, Sarah Moore, Scott Marsalis

Journal of Global Awareness

Short-term faculty-led study abroad programs are high-impact pedagogical practices designed to enhance students' global competency. However, there is a gap in our understanding regarding the specific educational components of short-term faculty-led study abroad programs that promote global competency. This systematic review examined nearly two decades of research on such programs (n=86) to assess the educational components associated with increases in students' global competencies using Steinberg's (2017) educational components as a framework. Results indicated that the educational components included in global competency-building education abroad courses varied substantially across programs and global regions. The components most strongly supporting enhanced global ...

The Understanding Of Mycorrhizae Networks: A Historical Approach, Jake Sun May 2022

The Understanding Of Mycorrhizae Networks: A Historical Approach, Jake Sun

The Confluence

The growth of mycorrhizal fungi into plant roots used to be viewed as a parasitic relationship between plants and fungi, where the fungal symbiont benefits and the plant host is harmed. Current research elucidates a mutualistic relationship. The mycorrhizae network assists the plants by increasing the capabilities for nutrient absorption in the soil. In exchange, the fungi receive carbon supply from the photosynthetic plants for growth. Our scientific understanding of other topics like species specificity, seed germination, and co-evolutionary influence of mycorrhizae and plants has also progressed. Additionally, we now understand that the mycorrhizal mutualism is not limited to the ...

The Ems Deficit: A Study On The Excessive Staffing Shortages Of Paramedics And Its Impact On Ems Performance In The States Of South Carolina And North Carolina And Interventions For Organizational Improvements., James Boyd Eubanks

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

This is a qualitative multi-case study on emergency medical services (EMS) paramedic shortages, their effects on ambulance responses, and the quality of patient care in the prehospital environment. A qualitative multi-case study was selected for this study because the nature of the methods’ design aligned with a systematic approach of life experiences (Creswell, 2015). Paramedics who participated in this study provided insight, from life experiences, as to why one prematurely leaves EMS; thus, creating a staffing shortage. The foundation of this study is the high staffing shortages of paramedics specifically in South Carolina (SC) and North Carolina (NC). Drastically reducing ...

Beyond Hcahps: Analysis Of Patients’ Comments Provides An Expanded View Of Their Hospital Experiences, Andrew S. Gallan, Rakesh Niraj, Awanindra Singh

Patient Experience Journal

An important concern for health care professionals is that standardized patient surveys may not fully capture all the topics that are important to patients. As a result, health care professionals may not have a complete picture of what their patients experience. The purpose of this research is to utilize a state-of-the-art Natural Language Processing technique to make sense of patients’ solicited, unstructured comments to gain a deeper and broader understanding of their experiences in the hospital. We analyzed a large dataset of inpatient survey responses (48,592 patients generating 65,998 comments) by a patient experience survey vendor for an ...

Measuring What Matters: A Proposal For Reframing How We Evaluate And Improve Experience In Healthcare, Alpa Vyas, Lisa Allen, Anne Brown, Jennifer Carron, Cassandra Crowe-Jackson, Rick Evans, Kevin Gwin, Jason A. Wolf

Patient Experience Journal

The conversation on measuring experience has been a long and thoughtful one. It has reflected a dynamic tension between measures used as a lever for action in some health systems and as a mechanism to determine reimbursable dollars in others. Yet underlying all the conversation, the question of what we measure, to what end we measure and what truly matters to those who experience care remains. Through a series of conversations over the last two years senior experience leaders across healthcare organizations determined it is time to assess the current landscape of patient experience measurement, to acknowledge what the existing ...
