Granular Fertiliser, C R. Hale Aug 1956

Granular Fertiliser, C R. Hale

Experimental Summaries - Plant Research

There is general agreement that granulation of fertilisers improves their physical characteristics with respect to handling, storage and distribution in the field. These physical advantages rather tan any established agronomic reason appear to be responsible for the increasing use of granular fertiliser.

Bulletin No. 386 - Production Of Lettuce Seed As Affected By Soil Moisture And Fertility, Leslie R. Hawthorn, Leonard H. Polland Jun 1956

Bulletin No. 386 - Production Of Lettuce Seed As Affected By Soil Moisture And Fertility, Leslie R. Hawthorn, Leonard H. Polland

UAES Bulletins

Much of the lettuce seed produced in the United States is grown under irrigation in various western states. Few studies have been made to determine the extent to which yields of seed are influenced by soil moisture and other cultural conditions. Crops have been irrigated mostly on the basis of local practices and the general experience of the grower. Recent studies in Utah (Hawthorn 1951) showed rather conclusively that carrot and onion seed crops grown side by side under the same climatic conditions differ widely in their response to soil moisture. High seed yields were obtained from carrots grown under …

Bulletin No. 385 - Comparitive Nutritive Value And Palatability Of Some Introduced And Native Forage Plants For Spring And Summer Grazing, C. Wayne Cook, L. A. Stoddart, Lorin E. Harris Jun 1956

Bulletin No. 385 - Comparitive Nutritive Value And Palatability Of Some Introduced And Native Forage Plants For Spring And Summer Grazing, C. Wayne Cook, L. A. Stoddart, Lorin E. Harris

UAES Bulletins

From 1952 to 1954 studies were conducted on foothill ranges of central Utah to determine the forage production, palatability, and nutritive value of some of the more important native and introduced species used for spring and summer grazing.

Plants studied were four introduced wheatgrasses (crested, tall, pubescent, and intermediate) , four native grasses (western wheatgrass, beardless wheatgrass, squirreltail grass, and Indian ricegrass), and two introduced annual forbs (Russian-thistle, and smother weed).

Field digestibility trials were conducted to determine the nutrient content by the lignin-ratio technique. In addition, both sheep and cattle preferences were studied on areas where both introduced and …

An Ecological Survey Of The Vascular Aquatic Vegetation Of The Cumberland Plateau In Tennessee, Franklin Delano Robinson Jun 1956

An Ecological Survey Of The Vascular Aquatic Vegetation Of The Cumberland Plateau In Tennessee, Franklin Delano Robinson

Masters Theses

A study of the vascular aquatic plants in the Cumberland Plateau in Tennessee was mad e during the summer of 1955. The purpose of this study was to find out the distribution of species in this area and try to learn some of the conditions under which the species involved survive. The species list for the area was arranged in alphabetical order under group headings according to the most frequently observed habit or position of growth. Under each species name the range and mean values determined for the carbon dioxide content, total acidity, total alkalinity, and pH of the surrounding …

The Interrelation And Interaction Of Allenrolfea Occidentalis And Its Edaphic Environment, Blaine H. Quigley Jun 1956

The Interrelation And Interaction Of Allenrolfea Occidentalis And Its Edaphic Environment, Blaine H. Quigley

Theses and Dissertations

To understand more fully how Allenrolfea occidentalis (S . Wats . ) Kuntze tolerates high salt concentrations and why it grows in hummocks, this study was undertaken . Allenrolfea is a shrubby member of the Sa licorneae subfamily of the Chenopodiaceae family , with practically leafless green succulent stems and inconspicuous flowers .

A Study Of The Effect Of Three Nutrients On The Growth Of Tomatoes, Walter B. Stone May 1956

A Study Of The Effect Of Three Nutrients On The Growth Of Tomatoes, Walter B. Stone

Biology ETDs

Studies of the various phases of plant growth are becoming more and more important to plant physiologists. Many such studies have been conducted for economic reasons to obtain increased production. In this investigation, fruit production and quality have been considered important, but have been placed second in interest to the effect certain nutrients may have on plant development during growth.

Most experiments of this type have been concerned with nutrient deficiencies. The writer has attempted in this experiment to use nutrient elements in excess and observe the effects produced during progressive phases of plant growth. Single elements, nitrogen, phosphorus, and …
