Eutrophication Trends Of Bear Lake, Idaho-Utah And Their Effect On The Distribution And Biological Productivity Of Zooplankton, David Nyquist May 1967

Eutrophication Trends Of Bear Lake, Idaho-Utah And Their Effect On The Distribution And Biological Productivity Of Zooplankton, David Nyquist

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Zooplankton of the littoral and limnetic zones of Bear Lake, Idaho-Utah, were collected over a 17-month period. Twenty-three species of zooplankton were recorded, as well as nine other species represented by both flora and fauna. At the time of sampling 17 physical and chemical parameters were also measured. Methods of analysis for the plankton and the environment are described and discussed.

The objectives of this project were fourfold:

  1. To establish a record of the current zooplankton population before changes due to the increase of organic nutrients occur.
  2. To compile a qualitative and quantitative standard against which future populations can be …

Distribution Of Macroinvertebrates In The Green River Below Flaming Gorge Dam, 1963-1965, William D. Pearson May 1967

Distribution Of Macroinvertebrates In The Green River Below Flaming Gorge Dam, 1963-1965, William D. Pearson

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

This study was undertaken to determine the effects of rotenone applied during a fish control operation in September 1962 and the installation of Flaming Gorge Dam in November 1962 upon the distribution of invertebrates in the Green River. Since these two events, the river has changed from a warm, turbid stream to a cold, clear trout stream for about 45 miles below the dam. Totals of 234 bottom samples and 394 drift samples were collected between the dam and Ouray, Utah (166 miles below the dam). The species composition of the fauna above Carr Ranch was much simpler during 1964-65 …

Intertidal Zonation Of Marine Algae At Gloucester Point, Virginia, Barry Lee Wulff Jan 1967

Intertidal Zonation Of Marine Algae At Gloucester Point, Virginia, Barry Lee Wulff

Dissertations, Theses, and Masters Projects

A study was made of the intertidal zone of aged wooden pilings from February to June, 1967 at Gloucester Point Virginia, located in the lower York River estuary. Twenty-six species of marine algae were found grouped into three floristic zones.

Nine species were limited to below mean low water, whichialL.rlted the lowest cone. In this group there were six Rhodophyta and three Chlorophyta. Seven floral levels comprised the middle floristic zone between mean low water to a height of 74 cm above mean low water. These levels ere based on uppermost range extensions of sixteen species (six Cyanophyta, two Rhodophyta, one Phaeophyta …
