Wetlands: Mechanisms For Treating Acid Mine Drainage, David C. Ditsch, Anastasios D. Karathanasis
Wetlands: Mechanisms For Treating Acid Mine Drainage, David C. Ditsch, Anastasios D. Karathanasis
Agronomy Notes
A great deal of attention has been given to wetlands in recent years. Research suggests that natural and/or constructed wetlands may play a valuable role in flood flow moderation, sediment retention and stabilization, and waste water treatment while providing habitat for game and nongame wildlife. Only within the last 10 years have wetlands received serious attention in the treatment of acid mine drainage (AMD).

Characterization Of An Old-Growth Bottomland Hardwood Wetland Forest In Northeast Texas: Harrison Bayou, Laurence C. Walker, Thomas Brantley, Virginia Burkett
Faculty Publications
Most wetland losses in the southern region over the past 200 years have occurred in bottomland hardwood forests. By 1980 the original extent of palustrine bottomland in Texas had been reduced by 63%, from roughly 16 to 6 million acres. Additional losses have occurred during more recent years as a result of conversion to agriculture and timber harvests; these factors and the need to supply new hardwood chip mills in the region pose a potential threat to the remaining hardwood resource. The Harrison Bayou watershed in northeast Texas contains one of the few relatively undisturbed bottomland hardwood wetland forests in …

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials
Increasing waterfowl migration habitat has been a goal of many groups and individuals for decades. Individuals have provided money for habitat by supporting private organizations such as Ducks Unlimited, and through the purchase of hunting licenses, duck stamps, and habitat stamps. All these activities have helped, but funds have been limited so it has not been possible to provide enough wetland space for the migrating waterfowl.
This NebFact discusses cost effective ways to provide more waterfowl migration habitat on seasonally inundated crops and a seasonal strategy that could provide habitat for geese and ducks during the spring and fall migration …
