Examination And Development Of An Essential Oil Industry In The Ord River Irrigation Area Of North Western Australia, Jean M.V. Bonnardeaux Jan 1989

Examination And Development Of An Essential Oil Industry In The Ord River Irrigation Area Of North Western Australia, Jean M.V. Bonnardeaux

Research Reports

The project aimed at establishing an essential oil industry in the Ord River Irrigation Area (ORIA). This industry is particularly suited to the ORIA where transport costs often prohibit the development of some agricultural products. The oils are concentrated and highly valuable. In addition, the ORIA with its abundant water and high temperatures presents a unique opportunity to grow a wide range of crops for the production of essential oils used by the food, medicinal and perfume industries. Australia has therefore an opportunity to initiate a new industry capable of replacing imports and gaining access to world markets representing a …

Rhizoctonia Control In Potatoes And Potato Resistance To Powdery Scab., R M. Floyd Jan 1989

Rhizoctonia Control In Potatoes And Potato Resistance To Powdery Scab., R M. Floyd

Experimental Summaries - Plant Research

Trials : 88BY26, 88PE34, 88MD35

Control of Rhizoctonia solani infection of potato stems and daughter tubers was demonstrated by preplanting applications of tolclofos-methyl (RIZOLEX TM) to either cut or round seed tubers. Yield of tubers from cut seed treated with Rizolex was increased over that of cut seed cured before planting bu not when seed was cut and planted the same day. Crops grown from round seed treated with Rizolex yielded higher than from untreated round seed.

Surface sterilization of seed tubers with Sodium hypochlorite was effective in reducing stem damage but not in reducing daughter tuber sclerotes. This indicates …

G89-902 Intensive Gardening Techniques, Betty Besal Jan 1989

G89-902 Intensive Gardening Techniques, Betty Besal

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials

This NebGuide describes techniques which will allow the gardener to grow more vegetables where space may be limited.

For some people, a small-sized garden is preferable to a larger one. Smaller gardens require less labor and expense than larger gardens. Decreasing garden size provides more yard space for other activities. The gardener can concentrate soil improvement efforts in a smaller area, and, with careful management, small gardens can produce sufficient vegetables for fresh eating during the growing season, and perhaps extra produce for preserving.

Planning For Horticultural Expansion On The Swan Coastal Plain, P Coghlan, Geoff Moore, Jim Dixon Jan 1989

Planning For Horticultural Expansion On The Swan Coastal Plain, P Coghlan, Geoff Moore, Jim Dixon

Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4

Horticulture is an intensive, high value form of agriculture highly dependant on the availability of good water supplies for the year-round production of fresh produce. Production increase in Western Australia and the encouragement and development of export markets has caused rapid expansion if the industry in recent years.

Expansion is expected to continue, placing severe pressure on available water supplies and suitable land close to markets. At present' 90 per cent of the Stase's horticultural land is on the Swan Coastal Plain and minor selected hills areas around Perth.
