Fessisentis Necturorum Sp. N. (Acanthocephala: Fessisentidae), A Parasite Of The Gulf Coast Waterdog, Necturus Beyeri, Brent B. Nickol
Harold W. Manter Laboratory of Parasitology: Faculty and Staff Publications
Specimens of a previously undescribed species of the genus Fessisentis were taken from the Gulf Coast waterdog, Necturus beyeri beyeri, in southeastern Louisiana. This is the third species of the genus to be described and the first published record of Fessisentis from an amphibian. The new species as a shorter body, smaller proboscis hooks, and a proportionately larger proboscis than F. fessus. The species from Necturus has more longitudinal rows of proboscis hooks each with fewer hooks, relatively smaller male genitalia, and proportionately longer lemnisci than F. vancleavei.

Glypthelmins pennsylvaniensis has been reported from Hyla crucifer Weid, in Pennsylvania (Cheng, 1961) and in Pseudacris nigrita (LeConte) in Georgia (Byrd and Maples, 1963). This report adds Pseudacris triseriata from Colorado.
Carbon Dioxide Fixation In Schistosoma Mansoni, Clint Earl Carter
Carbon Dioxide Fixation In Schistosoma Mansoni, Clint Earl Carter
Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects
Adults of the blood fluke Schistosoma mansoni were perfused from the hepatic portal system of CF1 female mice sixty to seventy days post infection. The worms were then incubated in Eagle’s minimal essential medium with glutamate and 0.03 mg/100 ml of nonlabelled aspartic acid. To this medium was added 10 μc of either NaH1403, glucose-UC14 or aspartate-4-C14. The worms were found to fix carbon from the NaH1403 and to incorporate the glucose and aspartate. The amount of activity recovered in five different chemical fractions after two hours incubation was determined …
A Consideration Of Infraspecific Categories In The Genus Echinococcus Rudolphi, 1801 (Cestoda: Taeniidae), Robert L. Rausch
A Consideration Of Infraspecific Categories In The Genus Echinococcus Rudolphi, 1801 (Cestoda: Taeniidae), Robert L. Rausch

Echinococcus granulosus (Batsch, 1786) and E. multilocularis Leuckart, 1863, have been considered polytypic species, nine and three subspecies, respectively, having been recognized mainly on typological grounds. However, limits of taxonomically significant morphological and physiological variation have not been defined, nor do we know the degree to which such variation is influenced by species of host. With the probable exception of E. g. canadensis Cameron, 1960, the recognized subspecies of E. granulosus occur sympatrically with the nominate subspecies, E. g. granulosus, of European origin. Because there are no well-defined predator-prey relationships which would ensure their ecological isolation, seven of these …
Ticks Of The Genus Haemaphysalis In The Western United States, Joe M. Merino
Ticks Of The Genus Haemaphysalis In The Western United States, Joe M. Merino
Theses and Dissertations
Two species of Haemaphysalis occurring in the western United States were studied with respect to geographical distribution, seasonal occurrence, host-parasite association and external anatomy and morphology. H. leporispalustris is widely distributed in the west. Abundant records for some states are lacking and should be provided to extend the knowledge of this tick's distribution.

Diseases Of Clovers In Western Australia, W A. Shipton
Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4
LEGUMES of the Trifolium species are grown widely in the State, and occupy an important place in our Agriculture.
There are a number of parasitic diseases of clovers, yet none have gained major economic importance.

Echinococcus granulosus (Batsch, 1786) and E. multilocularis Leuckart, 1863 [syn. Alveococcus multilocularis (Leuckart, 1863) Abuladze, 1960] are distinguished by well defined biological and developmental characteristics. Obligatory predator-prey relationships of the hosts segregate the two species ecologically under natural conditions. The larval stage of E. granulosus develops slowly in long-lived ungulates, while that of E. multilocularis becomes infective within a few months in intermediate hosts (rodents) having a life expectancy of less than a year.
Existing parasite-host relationships of these cestodes had become established at least as early as late Pleistocene time, and two biologically distinct forms of E. granulosus can …

Summary
Structures were seen in the merozoites of Eimeria intestinalis which were markedly resembled a centriole. Nine tubules formed a ringlet near the nucleus, with one more tubule in the center. This structure, although similar to a typical centriole, differs in that it has a central tubule.

New Records Of The Pigmy Shrew Microsorex Hoyi (Baird) In Alaska, Robert L. Rausch
New Records Of The Pigmy Shrew Microsorex Hoyi (Baird) In Alaska, Robert L. Rausch
Harold W. Manter Laboratory of Parasitology: Faculty and Staff Publications
The results of extensive trapping (ca. 7000 small mammals from the Alaskan mainland) indicate that the pigmy shrew, Microsorex hoyi (Baird), is a comparatively rare mammal in Alaska. From January, 1949, to the present, my co-workers and I have collected only seven specimens. These few animals considerably extend the known geographic range of M. hoyi in Alaska.
