Investigation Of The In Vitro Antioxidant Activity Of Fermented Tomato Pruning Residues And Its Effects On Biochemical And Hematological Parameters Of Rats, Bariş Denk, Beyza Aydoğan, İsmai̇l Bayram, Abdurrahman Fati̇h Fi̇dan

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

In the tomato greenhouse production process, a by-product emerges in the form of greenhouse residues. One of these residues is leaf pruning residue, which poses an environmental pollution problem in terms of waste management. The purpose of this work was to investigate the use of fermented tomato leaves (FTL) as an animal feed additive and its potential to mitigate the environmental pollution problem caused by greenhouse pruning residues. The pruning residues were fermented and their in vitro antioxidant activity (AOA) levels were analyzed using 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS), 2,2-diphenyl-1-picryl-hydrazylhydrate (DPPH), reducing power (RP), and total phenolic content (TPC) assays. Wistar albino …

Effects Of Spray-Dried Porcine Plasma Replacement With Tryptophan, Pyridoxine, And Niacin Supplementation On Feed Intake And Growth Performance Of Weaning Piglets, Wantamas Jantasin, Liang Chou Hsia

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The purpose of this experiment was to investigate the effects of feeding a low crude protein diet with supplemental dietary tryptophan in combination with pyridoxine and niacin compared with spray-dried porcine plasma (SDPP) supplementation on the performance and feed intake of weaning pigs. A total of 36 crossbred (Landrace × Yorkshire × Duroc) weaned female pigs of 28 days old were reared under three dietary treatments. Treatments were 1) corn-soybean meal diet, 2) 0.30% synthetic tryptophan + pyridoxine + niacin, and 3) 5% SDPP. The experimental results indicated no significant difference (P > 0.05) in feed intake for pigs fed the …

Influence Of Feeding Frequency On Feed Intake, Growth Performance And Nutrient Utilization In European Sea Bass (Dicentrarchus Labrax) Fed Pelleted Or Extruded Diets, Derya Güroy, Emrah Deveci̇ler, Betül Kut Güroy, Ahmet Adem Teki̇nay

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

In an 83-day-nutrition trial, effects of feed production technique and feeding frequency on feed intake, growth and nutrient utilization were determined in European sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax). Three thousand six hundred fish (170 ± 2.6 g) were randomly allocated to experimental sea cages (approx. 5800 l) according to a 2 x 2 experimental plan [2 processing techniques: steam pelleted diet (P) vs. extruded diet (E); 2 feeding frequencies: twice (2) vs. 3 times (3)]. The P3 group consumed significantly (P < 0.05) more feed than the fish fed extruded diets, irrespective of feeding frequency. Growth rates of all groups did not display any significant difference (P > 0.05) in terms of final weight (FW) or specific growth rate (SGR), although there was a decreasing trend in final …

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

This study was carried out to analyse the economic effects of early weaning and of feeding with diets containing different protein sources in early weaned piglets. One hundred and fourteen piglets were used in this study. Fifty-four piglets were fed by suckling their mothers for 20 days and they weaned on day 21 and they were equally assigned to 2 experimental groups and 1 control group. Sixty piglets were fed by suckling their mothers for 27 days and they were weaned on day 28. These piglets were also assigned to 2 experimental groups and 1 control group. The first experimental …

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Seven male Awassi sheep and 7 male Shami (Damascus) goats, one year old and fed with a diet having 2503 Kcal ME and 155 g crude protein kg^{-1}, were housed individually for 49 days to determine the feeding behaviour. Each animal within each species was one replicate and kept individually within 100 x 120 x 120 cm wood pen in indoor conditions with natural daylight and 11-18 °C room temperature. Twice a week, starting right after daily feed refreshment at 12.00, behavioural observations were made at 12.00, 16.00, 20.00, 24.00, 04.00 and 08.00 with 5-minute intervals by monitoring the animals. …

Influence Of Dietary Energy Level On Stomach Emptying And Appetite Revival Rates In Rainbow Trout, Oncorhynchus Mykiss, Ahmet Adem Teki̇nay, Yusuf Güner, Simon John Davies Jan 2003

Influence Of Dietary Energy Level On Stomach Emptying And Appetite Revival Rates In Rainbow Trout, Oncorhynchus Mykiss, Ahmet Adem Teki̇nay, Yusuf Güner, Simon John Davies

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

D1, D2 and D3 diets containing 15.5, 12.5 and 9.0 MJ kg^{-1} digestible energy concentrations were offered to rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss Walbaum, 1792), and the rates of gastric evacuation and feed intake were determined. Gastric evacuation determinations were achieved by slaughtering eight fish every 6 h until no residue was found in the cardiac stomach. Return of appetite experiments were conducted by re-feeding groups of trout every 6 h following the first feeding. The data provided from each process was modelled by regression analysis and compared statistically. Square root equations best explained the gastric evacuation data, whereas first-order models …

Estimation Of Individual Feed Consumption Of Fattening Lambs On Group Feeding, Ensar Başpinar, M. Muhip Özkan, Şafak Polatsü, İ. Yaman Yurtman, İ. Zafer Arik

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The aim of the this study was to develop a model to estimate the individual feed consumption of fattening lambs which were fed in groups adlibitum. The individual feed consumption and live weight data obtained from the 3 previous works weresed. The feed consumption of 76 lambs in 41 different fattening periods were estimated by using the developed model and individual consumption values and group averages were compared with the estimated values. The model estimated the individual feed intake better than group averages in 33 of 41 calculations.
