Poplars In The Prairie Provinces, G. A. Steneker
Poplars In The Prairie Provinces, G. A. Steneker
Aspen Bibliography
The story of poplars is an unusual tale - a rag to riches story. The poplar has gone from weed to popular resource, because today this abundant species is being regarded by many as a possible source of newsprint, tissue, plywood and even livestock feed. Poplars provide choice winter and summer food for white-tailed deer and grouse, and the first prairie homes were built with and heated by poplar logs. Often considered a weed, the poplars of the Prairies are now facing a brighter future.

Location-Allocation Models For Establishing Facilities, David F. Gibson, John Rodenberg
Location-Allocation Models For Establishing Facilities, David F. Gibson, John Rodenberg
Aspen Bibliography
Two models and accompanying computer programs are presented which were developed to locate facilities for the timber harvesting industry. Addressed is a case of the facility location-allocation problem. The optimum location and number of landings, facilities to which timber is transshipped, are determined so as to minimize a cost function. This function is composed of the following components: (1) cost of transporting material from its original location to a landing, (2) cost of establishing a landing (facility cost), and (3) cost of transporting material from the landings to some designated point termed the origin. Output of the computer programs is …
Silviculture Of Southwestern Mixed Conifers And Aspen: The Status Of Our Knowledge, John R. Jones
Silviculture Of Southwestern Mixed Conifers And Aspen: The Status Of Our Knowledge, John R. Jones
Aspen Bibliography
In any field there is a periodic need to describe the status of available knowledge - to gather unpublished information and that which is scattered in various reports, and organize it in one set of covers for easy reference. That has been done here. Recommendations will often be somewhat tentative and less than precise. While there is much we still need to find out about the silvics and silviculture of mixed conifer land in the Southwest, there is much we already know.

Production Of Dry Matter From Aspen Stands Harvested On Short Rotations, A. B. Berry
Aspen Bibliography
Although the aspens (Populus tremuloides Michx. and P. grandidentata Michx.) are amongst the most widely distributed species in Canada and the United States, their utilization has been disproportionally small; in fact aspen was considered a weed species for many years.

One of the primary concerns of many cattle ranchers in the aspen parkland area of Alberta and Saskatchewan is to increase forage production through the replacement of woody species by usable forage plants.

Development Of Unpollinated Ovules Of Quaking Aspen, G.H. Fechner
Aspen Bibliography
The development of quaking aspen (Populus tremuloides Michx.) female flowers has been studied following wind pollination in the field (Nagaraj, 1952) and following forcing and controlled pollination in the laboratory (Winton, 1968; Fechner, 1972).
