Current Nomenclature And Systematics Of Capsella Medik. With Lectotypifications:Towards Solving The Puzzle, Yelda Güzel

The taxonomic history of Capsella Medik., one of the genera with the highest phenotypic plasticity, and thus the highest synonym number relative to the recognized species number, was reviewed. The current systematics of the genus was discussed and the exact number of taxa was determined. In light of the molecular and nomenclatural data, it was decided that the genus was represented around the world by five species and one hybrid. Considering the molecular studies that have been conducted over the 30 years it was concluded that the species of this genus are typical examples of the concept of cryptic species. …

Nomenclatural And Taxonomic Notes On Some Stachys Taxa (Lamiaceae), Özal Güner, P. Pablo Ferrer-Gallego

Stachys glechomifolia (Lamiaceae), previously included under S. mardinensis as a synonym, is resurrected in this work based on extensive field and herbarium studies. In addition to its distribution in Turkey, S. mardinensis has firstly been recorded from Iran. Furthermore, the lectotypes of S. fragillima, S. graveolens, and S. kurdica var. brevidens are designated in this study. An expanded description and distribution map of S. glechomifolia, and some taxonomic notes on S. graveolens, S. fragillima, S. mardinensis, and S. nephrophylla are also reported.

Tragopogon porrifolius occurs in Turkey with 3 taxonomically confused subspecies: T. porrifolius subsp. eriospermus, T. porrifolius subsp. longirostris, and T. porrifolius subsp. abbreviatus. In the present paper, T. porrifolius subsp. abbreviatus endemic to Turkey is raised at specific level based on morphological and molecular analysis. After detailed assessment of original herbarium specimens and literature studies, we found that this name is not typified yet. Thus, a lectotype is provided together with an emended diagnosis; synonym, distribution map, and conservation status for the first time. Additionally, a preliminary phylogenetic position of this little-known taxon is given on several newly sequenced data.

The genus Dicaryum Willd. ex Roem. & Schult. was described in 1819 and does not have a type species. Two species were described, and one, D. subdentatum Willd. ex Roem. & Schult., is better selected as the type because the other species, D. serrulatum Willd. ex Roem. & Schult., is not a Verbenaceae but rather a Primulaceae-Myrsinoideae and belongs to Geissanthus Hook. f. Given the circumstances, we choose D. subdentatum as the type species of Dicaryum, which is a synonym of Citharexylum ilicifolium Kunth.

The long-neglected lichen described as Cladonia trapezuntica was rediscovered at its type locality in Turkey thanks to historical maps available at the Natural History Museum in Vienna. Molecular, morphological, and chemical analyses were applied to determine whether C. Trapezuntica is a distinct species or rather falls within the phenotypic variation of Pycnothelia papillaria. Although most of the podetia appear to be unusual for P. Papillaria, the molecular evidence indicates that C. Trapezuntica should be considered as a synonym of P. Papillaria, and the cushion-like growth form, taller podetia with irregular to dichotomously or trichotomously branching pattern, and scarce primary thallus …

A New Diploid Species Of Pilosella (Asteraceae) From Turkey, Vladimir Vladimirov, Kami̇l Çoşkunçelebi̇, Kit Tan

Pilosella ilgazensis Vladimirov, Coşkunçelebi & Kit Tan, a new diploid (2n = 2x = 18) species from Ilgaz Mountain National Park, North Anatolia, Turkey, is described and illustrated. It grows in subalpine grassland and open Juniperus sibirica Burgsd. communities. Pilosella ilgazensis is morphologically intermediate between P. alpicola s.l., from the high mountains of Central and Southeast Europe, and the Euro-Asiatic Pilosella echioides s.l. The relationship of the species with other similar taxa is discussed. A Revision Of Centaurea Sect. Centaurea (Asteraceae) From Iran, Massoud Ranjbar, Kazem Negaresh

A taxonomic review of Centaurea L. sect. Centaurea (Asteraceae) in Iran was carried out. Seven taxa are recognized and 1 of them is described as a new species: Centaurea joharchii Ranjbar & Negaresh. This new species has been described and illustrated from Khorasan Province, SE Iran. A new combination is proposed: C. kermanshahensis (Wagenitz) Ranjbar & Negaresh. In addition, C. aggregata Fisch. & C.A.Mey. ex DC. subsp. aggregata is typified and C. diffusa Lam. is reported here as a new record for Iran. Finally, a key to all species of the section Centaurea in Iran is provided.

Symphytum anatolicum Boiss. is an endemic species in the Flora of Turkey and the East Aegean Islands. It was first collected by d'Urville on the island of Cos in 1820 and named Symphytum asperrimum d'Urv. The plant was again collected by Boissier near İzmir (Smyrna) in 1842, and described by him as S. anatolicum in 1844. There are 4 collections mentioned in the protologue in Boissier's Flora Orientalis (1879). The herbarium specimen "Hab. in umbrosis montium circa Smyrnam", housed in G-Boiss. Herbarium, was chosen as lectotype as it best represents the species description.
