Western Corn Rootworm Egg Distribution And Adult Emergence Under Two Corn Tillage Systems, K. P. Pruess, G. T. Weekman, B. R. Somerhalder Oct 1968

Western Corn Rootworm Egg Distribution And Adult Emergence Under Two Corn Tillage Systems, K. P. Pruess, G. T. Weekman, B. R. Somerhalder

Department of Entomology: Faculty Publications

Under a conventional plowing system, eggs of Diabrotica virgifera LeConte were more uniformly deposited in the top 6 inches of the soil profile than under a reduced strip-tillage system which resulted in heaviest egg deposition in the furrow or ridge. Equal numbers of eggs were deposited in both systems. After corn was planted, more eggs occurred in the seedling zone in conventionally planted corn; in till-plant corn, eggs were removed from the seed row, and eggs concentrated in the furrow were covered with additional soil. Adult emergence was 5–10 days later in till-plant corn than in the conventional tillage system.

B662: Costs And Returns On Maine Broiler Farms, Kenneth E. Wing, Frank D. Reed

Bulletins

This bulletin, in addition to presenting some statistical data on the growth and development of the broiler industry in Maine, includes the results of a survey made in 1967 of a representative sample of Maine contract broiler growers. A sample of 180 out of the approximately 900 broiler farms in Maine was surveyed during the summer of 1967 to obtain operating results for 1966. From this sample, 103 farms supplied information that was analyzed in this study. The average Maine broiler farm in 1966 had 20,913 square feet of floor space, which was unoccupied for an average of 65 days …

Consumer Attitudes Affecting The Use Of Fluid Milk Products In Metropolitan Salt Lake City, Wayne N. Monson May 1968

Consumer Attitudes Affecting The Use Of Fluid Milk Products In Metropolitan Salt Lake City, Wayne N. Monson

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

A survey of 360 respondents in metropolitan Salt Lake City was made to determine their attitudes about fluid milk products and the affect of these attitudes on consumption levels. The fluid milk products studied were regular whole milk, two percent milk, skim milk, and nonfat dry (powdered) milk.

The respondents had the most positive attitudes about regular whole milk. Their attitudes about the other three products were highest for those which most nearly resembled regular whole milk. The consumption levels of the four products followed the same pattern.

The respondents' attitudes about four attitude parameters affected their consumption levels. Those …

Transfer Of Farm Real Estate In Utah, 1961-1964, Howard Rasmus Thomas May 1968

Transfer Of Farm Real Estate In Utah, 1961-1964, Howard Rasmus Thomas

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Recorded "arms length" transfers of farm real estate were analyzed to determine factors affecting market value and assessment per acre, and assessment to market value ratios.

The data were aggregated by county and geographical groups. The geographical groups were made up of counties with similar population densities and similar climatic conditions.

Using multiple regression analysis and tabular analysis, size of parcel, quality of land, and distance to Salt Lake City were found to affect market value per acre; size of parcel and quality of land were found to affect assessment and assessment to market value ratios.

Estimated Supply Response Of Sugar Beet Production To Changes In Profitableness, Box Elder And Cache Counties, Utah, 1967, Brent W. Spaulding May 1968

Estimated Supply Response Of Sugar Beet Production To Changes In Profitableness, Box Elder And Cache Counties, Utah, 1967, Brent W. Spaulding

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

The relative profitability of sugar beets and competitive crops were studied in Box Elder and Cache counties, Utah.

Profitability ratios based on enterprise budget data and resource use requirements were used as a basis for comparison. Sugar beets was found to be more profitable than competing crops in returns per acre, in returns to water used and in returns to fixed investment and management. However, sugar beets was found to be less profitable than certain other crops in returns to operating capital and returns to labor. Also, on land rated low in productivity sugar beets was found to be less …

Improvement Of Beef Cattle Through Breeding Methods. Summary Of Results From Regional Project Nc-1, Larry V. Cundiff, Keith E. Gregory

Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Research Bulletins

This publication is a revision of North Central Regional Publication 120, published by the Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station (Research Bulletin 196) in July, 1961. It summarizes the more important results from this project during its first 19 years of operation. It is by no means complete and includes only what is considered to be the "highlights" of findings at this time. A bibliography of all publications that provided the basis for this summary statement is included. This publication is in the nature of a progress report on many aspects of beef cattle breeding research. Although it is based on considerably …

Comparisons And Effects Of Assessing Agricultural Land According To Market Value Versus Agricultural Value For Taxing Purposes, Salt Lake County, Utah, 1967, Fred Degiorgio May 1968

Comparisons And Effects Of Assessing Agricultural Land According To Market Value Versus Agricultural Value For Taxing Purposes, Salt Lake County, Utah, 1967, Fred Degiorgio

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

A sample of agricultural parcels in Salt Lake County, Utah was analyzed to determine the effects on assessed values and per acre taxes under alternative assessment methods; assessment according to market value or agricultural value (preferential treatment).

The assessed value changes and tax shifting between all classes of taxable property in the county were calculated with and without the preferential assessment of agricultural land and at assessment levels equalized for all classes.

Variations in assessed value, agricultural and market values and assessment ratios were analyzed for the parcels in the sample by location and size of the parcel, present use, …

A History Of The Utah Extension Service, 1888-1950, Karen Juchau

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

A Utah State Agriculture Extension Department was created by the Utah State Agricultural College in 1907 to be supported by state appropriations. Its purpose was to bring the information being gained by the College Experiment Station, and other knowledge applicable to agriculture, to the rural population of the State in order to improve the quality of Utah agriculture and the conditions of the farm population. The program began with college instructors holding Farmers' Institutes and schools and expanded into a state-wide system of agricultural and home extension work carried on by specially appointed county agents in each county. The purpose …
