The American Law Institute ("ALI") is a unique institution. As one writer describes it:
The ALI is perhaps the most elite group of lawyers in the United States. This Article analyzes noteworthy cases in the areas of corporate, partnership, securities and banking law decided during the survey period' by the Georgia Court of Appeals, the Georgia Supreme Court, the United States district courts in Georgia and the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. Additionally, the Article highlights certain enactments by the Georgia General Assembly revising the Official Code of Georgia Annotated ("O.C.G.A.").

If The Punishment Fits - Doctored Bmw Paint Job Returns Punitive Damages Issue To The Court, Richard C. Reuben

A lot more is at stake in BMW of North America v. Gore, 94-896, than the legal cost of repainting luxury automobiles, The case returns the issue of punitive damages to the Supreme Court amid complaints by business interests to a receptive Congress that high punitive awards are helping to stifle U.S. economic growth. At the same time, the case carries overtones of federalism, an issue that seems to lurk throughout the Supreme Court's docket these days.

Banks play a unique and important role in our economy. They serve tremendously useful economic functions; for this reason, our society has become irretrievably dependent upon them. Banks safe- guard our life savings and business profits, and provide capital to those who need it to buy, invest, or grow.' Although these functions could be performed without an intermediary-private citizens may freely lend their cash to other private citizens who need it-banks are viewed as safer and more efficient controllers of cash flow.
