The Disconnect Between Family Law And Immigration Law In The Usa That Results In Undocumented Immigrants Losing Parental Rights, Mercedes Aznar, Sara Schechter

Due to increasing violence in Latin American countries, the flow of immigrants seeking asylum in the United States has risen. In our research we look into possible legal consequences of the practice of separating immigrant families. Through the analysis of scholarly articles and legal documents we found that oftentimes, undocumented immigrants lose parental rights while being detained by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), due to lack of coordination between Family Law and Immigration Law. Findings in this study reinforce the urgency to find solutions to this problem.

Policy makers and other stakeholders are currently asking fundamental questions about whether and to what extent international investment agreements (IIAs) are consistent with and are helping to advance sustainable development objectives at home and abroad.

A 2019 paper from CCSI examines the alignment of IIAs with the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, arguing that while FDI will play an important role in advancing development outcomes, existing treaties must be reformed and future IIAs reimagined in order to achieve deep alignment with the sustainable development goals.

The Supreme Court in Janus v. American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees, Council 31 upended public sector labor law by finding a novel First Amendment right of public employees to refuse to pay union fees and declaring unconstitutional scores of laws and thousands of labor contracts. This Article assesses the constraints on public sector labor law post-Janus, examines the variety of legislative responses, and proposes a path forward.Janus makes it difficult to address the collective action problem facing all large groups. In April 2018, Joseph James D'Angelo was arrested as a suspect in the Golden State Killer case. DNA evidence collected at a 1980 crime scene finally shed light on the murderer's identity in early 2018 when investigators turned to GEDMatch, a service that allows users to upload and share DNA data obtained from consumer genetic tests. Consumer genetic testing, DNA collection, and familial DNA searching all raise ethical and privacy concerns. If investigators are using genetic genealogy to solve cold cases, where does that leave consumers?

The Facts:On September 10, 2017, Hurricane Irma made landfall in Florida, and wreaked havoc across the state causing structural damage, flooding, and power outages. Among those effected by the power outage was the Hollywood Hills Rehabilitation Center, a nursing home in Hollywood, Florida. In preparation of the impending storm, the governor of Florida, Rick Scott, held “teleconference calls (Spencer, Kennedy, Licon, & Associated Press, 2018),”with nursing home and hospital officials, as well as emergency managers. Some 30 years ago, the Illinois Supreme Court, in In re Himmel, recognized that no discovery/evidentiary privilege would attach to nonconfidential attorney-client communications. Some communications would be nonconfidential if made in the presence of those who were not "agents" of either the attorney or client. As to the client in Himmel, neither the client's mother nor her fiancé were deemed the client's agents so that there was no privilege. Coffee, the world’s favorite beverage, provides livelihoods for at least 60 million people across dozens of countries. Yet this beloved drink is experiencing a sustainability crisis. A sustained decline in world coffee prices has squeezed coffee producers, and thrown a tremendous number of producers below the global extreme poverty line. This report presents our research into sustainability within the coffee sector, including the results of our analytical and empirical modeling, and provides several recommendations.

At the request of the Colombian Government and with the support of GIZ, CCSI prepared a policy brief focused on linkages from the mining sector in Colombia. The brief gives an overview of existing regulatory requirements, government policies and company programs to foster economic and infrastructure linkages.
